Bilateral Naval Exercise THAMAR AL TAYYIB 2021 conducted in North Arabian Sea 

Karachi, December 19, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Navy and Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) participated in bilateral naval Exercise THAMAR AL TAYYIB 2021 (TAT-21) in North Arabian Sea. The Naval exercise included participation of Surface and air units beside Naval Special Operations Forces from both navies. The Omani Navy Task Group comprised of RNO ships AL DHAFERAH and AL SEEB. Whereas Maritime Patrol Aircraft of Royal Air Force of Oman also participated in the exercise.

During Harbour Phase of the exercise, operational and tactical level discussions and Pre-Exercise Conferences were conducted. Commanding officers of visiting RNO ships called on Commander Pakistan Fleet and Commander Coast; wherein, matters of mutual interests were discussed and enhancement of bilateral ties in all spheres was re-affirmed. The Commanding Officers of visiting RNO ships also extended gratitude for the whole-hearted support provided by Pakistan Navy for conduct of Exercise THAMAR AL TAYYIB 2021.

Sea phase of the exercise comprised counter terrorism, Anti-Air and Anti-Surface Warfare Operations with an overall aim to curb illicit activities at sea. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi also visited RNO ships and interacted with officers and men onboard.

Exercise TAT-21 provided an avenue of mutual learning and inter-operability and opportunity for both navies to further hone their professional skills. Exercises between the two Navies are regularly being conducted since 1990. Last exercise of the TAT series was conducted in Omani waters in 2019. Regular conduct of bilateral Naval exercise between Pakistan Navy and Royal Navy of Oman are indicative of long-standing brotherly relations between two countries in general and both navies in particular.

IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan orders to tighten security on the eve of Christmas 

Lahore, December 19, 2021 (PPI-OT):Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has said that in view of arrival of Christmas, security plan for Christian places of worship and recreational spots should be reviewed in all districts of the province. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said for security arrangements of sensitive churches, CCTV cameras, metal detectors, walk through gates and other modern technologies must be utilised.

IG Punjab directed all RPOs and DPOs to formulate Christmas security plan under their supervision and also ensure security of recreational places. IG Punjab said that supervisory officers should increase patrolling at night and special measures should be taken in big cities. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that supervisory officers themselves should go out in the field and inspect the security arrangements of A category churches.

Instructing the supervisory officers, IG Punjab further said that search, sweep and intelligence-based operations should be carried out on daily basis in all districts. intelligence-based operations should be conducted on a daily basis in all districts. The system of checking passengers and vehicles at inter-provincial, inter-district check posts and crossing points should be made more efficient. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that special branch, SPU, traffic teams and district police should work together to ensure best security arrangements.

IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan pays homage to Police Constable Basharat Ali who was martyred in a dumper collision while helping citizens in Faisalabad 

Lahore, December 19, 2021 (PPI-OT):Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has paid rich tributes to the sacrifice of Constable Basharat Ali who was martyred in collision with an over speeding dumper while assisting citizens in removing the fallen car in Dijikot area of Faisalabad. IG Punjab said that the Punjab Police as well as the entire nation is proud of the sacrifice of Constable Basharat Ali. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that Riaz, the brother of Shaheed Basharat Ali, had been martyred earlier in a police encounter and his family is great whose two sons have been martyred in line of duty to serve and protect people.

Funeral prayers of Shaheed Constable Basharat Ali were offered at Police Lines Faisalabad on Sunday morning. RPO Faisalabad Imran Mehmood and CPO Faisalabad Ghulam Mubashir Mekan and a large number of other officers and personnel attended his funeral. The martyred was paid salutations by a well-armed contingent of police. CPO Faisalabad Ghulam Mubashir Mekan expressed condolences to family of martyred constable Basharat Ali. Police have arrested driver of the overloaded dumper and legal action is being taken against him. Shaheed Constable Basharat Ali was the father of 6 children. IG Punjab directed CPO Faisalabad to maintain close contact with the family of the martyr and ensure priority measures for their possible welfare.

Pakistan Navy wins 35th National Rowing Championship 

Islamabad, December 19, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Navy wins 35th National Rowing Championship after 9 years. The Closing Ceremony of National Rowing Championship under auspices of Pakistan Navy was held at Rawal Lake. Teams from Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Army, WAPDA, Punjab, Islamabad Club and Pakistan Police participated in the championship.

The matches were conducted in the category of open single, open double, open four, light single, light double, light four and pair. Pakistan Navy Rowing team successfully competed in all the events by winning 7 Gold medals in the men’s category. Pak Army remained runner up with 7 silver medals. Pak Army lead the women category with 06 gold and 01 silver while WAPDA remained runner up with 01 gold and 2 silver and 04 bronze medals.

IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan expresses sorrow over death of Constable Tariq in Elite Force vehicle accident near Nankana 

Lahore, December 19, 2021 (PPI-OT):Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has expressed grief over death of Constable Tariq in an Elite Force vehicle accident near Nankana Sahib. IG Punjab has sought report of the incident from RPO Sheikhupura region.

Expressing heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family of the deceased elite official, IG Punjab said that the officers and personnel who sacrificed their lives while on duty are valuable assets of the department. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that entire force equally shares the grief of Constable Tariq’s family and all possible support will be provided to his family. IG Punjab further said that best medical facilities should be provided to other personnel injured in the accident.

COVID-19 claims 3 more patients, infects 237 others 

Karachi, December 19, 2021 (PPI-OT):As many as 3 more patients of Coronavirus died overnight lifting the death toll to 7,652 and 237 new cases emerged when 14,063 tests were conducted. This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here on Sunday. He added that 3 more patients of COVID-19 lost their lives lifting the death toll to 7,652 that constituted 1.6 percent death rate.

Mr. Shah said that 14,063 samples were tested which detected 237 cases that constituted 1.7 percent current detection rate. He added that so far 6,972,463 tests have been conducted against which 478,201 cases were diagnosed, of them 97.6 percent or 465,928 patients have recovered, including 62 overnight.

The CM said that currently 4,621 patients were under treatment, of them 4,456 were in home isolation, 26 at isolation centres and 139 at different hospitals. He added that the condition of 131 patients was stated to be critical, including 10 shifted to ventilators.

According to the statement, out of 237 new cases, 58 have been detected from Karachi, including 32 from South, 22 East, 2 Korangi and Central each. Dadu has 16, Jamshoro and Tando Muhammad Khan 15 each, Tando Allahyar, Thatta and Naushero Feroze 14 each, Matiari 13, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad 12 each, Sanghar 11, Hyderabad 10, Larkana 7, Sukkur 5, Shikarpur 4, Badin, Jacobabad, Tharparkar, Umerkot and Ghotki 3 each, Sujawal 2.

Vaccination: Sharing vaccination data the CM said that 26,812,767 vaccinations have been administered upto December 17th, and added during the last 24 hours 191,453 vaccines were inoculated – in total 27,004,220 vaccines have administered which constituted 49.21 percent of the vaccine eligible population. The chief minister urged people of the province to follow SOPs.

State Bank of Pakistan takes more measures to Enhance Documentation and Transparency in Foreign Exchange Transactions through Exchange Companies 

Karachi, December 19, 2021 (PPI-OT):In order to enhance documentation and transparency and to further strengthen the foreign exchange regulatory regime, the State Bank of Pakistan has amended the regulations governing sale of foreign exchange to individuals by exchange companies. This step, which is in continuation of other measures being taken by SBP, is primarily to discourage speculative buying and selling of foreign exchange from the exchange companies without affecting the ability of the market to serve the genuine needs of the public.

Consequent to these amendments, exchange companies shall ensure that any individual shall not purchase foreign exchange from all exchange companies in excess of USD 10,000 per day and USD 100,000 (or equivalent in other currencies) per calendar year, in the form of cash or outward remittances. These limits have been set taking into consideration the individual’s personal needs for foreign exchange.

In addition, the individuals shall continue to avail the facility of remitting the educational and medical expenses abroad up to USD 70,000 per calendar year and USD 50,000 per invoice respectively, from banks as per existing regulations (for details on this see SBP circular). For remittance of any amount in excess of these limits, or for any other purposes, individuals can approach Foreign Exchange Operations Department of SBP-BSC, through their bank. Further, there is no change in regulations with respect to foreign currency accounts of the individuals.

The exchange companies shall obtain supporting documents against sale of foreign exchange in excess of USD 1,000 (or equivalent in other currencies) substantiating the purpose of transaction. Further, exchange companies shall not perform transactions against authority letters. Instructions further emphasized that ECs shall perform transactions only at authorized outlets of the company and shall not provide delivery services to the customers.

Chairman FBR Spends a Busy Day at Pak-Iran Border, Taftan 

Islamabad, December 19, 2021 (PPI-OT):On the second day of his visit to Quetta, Chairman FBR/Secretary Revenue Division, Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed, spent a busy day at Pak-Iran border and visited Customs House, Taftan on Saturday. He was accompanied by Dr. Muhammad Saeed Khan Jadoon, Member (Customs Policy), FBR, Mr. Muhammad Sadiq, Chief Collector Customs (Balochistan) and Mr. Rashid Habib, Collector Customs, Appraisement, Quetta. The Chairman was warmly received by the officers and staff of Appraisement and Enforcement Collectorate at Juzak Airfield.

During the visit, Colonel Asad, General Manager, NLC, Quetta briefed the Chairman about different initiatives taken by NLC for the traffic management at Taftan and further apprised him about future projects of NLC. Later, Chairman FBR visited Bazarcha Zero Point and discussed its reopening with Frontier Corps and District Administration. He remarked that the issue of allocation of land for Bazarcha would also be taken up with the Chief Secretary, Balochistan.

The Chairman then visited Pak-Iran border and newly established NLC Border Terminal at Taftan. He directed the NLC authorities at Taftan to provide facilities for the Customs staff, traders, and the passengers. He visited the Customs Baggage and Immigration Hall where he was briefed by the Additional Collector Enforcement and FIA authorities.

He also visited newly constructed Customs Complex and appreciated the efforts of the Collectorate of Appraisement for establishing the infrastructure in the far-flung area. He directed to renovate the building to make ample space for the residences of officers and officials being posted at Taftan. He further directed to complete the project by the end of February, 2022 before he visits Taftan again. He also inaugurated the mosque constructed by the Pakistan Customs with the assistance of local traders.

Afterwards, the Chairman held a meeting with the local notables led by Mr. Ejaz Khan Sanjrani and consisting of influencers and businessmen from Taftan, Mashkel and Nokundi. They expressed their concerns over the closure of Bazarcha Border Point at Mashkel. Chairman FBR assured the delegates that Bazarcha will soon be re-opened after fulfilment of all necessary legal formalities. He also informed the notables from Mashkel that the re-opening of Customs Station Katagar will be planned in consultation with all the stakeholders.

Last but not the least, Chairman FBR held an important meeting with the Iranian delegation comprising of DG Customs Seistan and Balochistan province, representatives of Ministries of commerce, Transportation, Foreign Affairs and Border Security who presented a charter of demands. He assured the Iranian delegation of his fullest support in strengthening mutual cooperation and promised to involve the Federal Government in ensuring the required intervention at policy level. He directed the Chief Collector, Customs (Balochistan) to resolve the operational issues on top priority.
