Au Cameroun, le bureau de POWERCHINA a une tradition qui fait chaud au cœur. Chaque année, autour de Noël et du Nouvel An, le bureau coopère avec les sociétés membres du groupe pour organiser des activités bénévoles dans les écoles et les orphelinats des zones situées le long des routes qu’il construit. Ils réparent les salles de classe et font don de papeterie aux enfants, et chantent et dansent avec eux pour célébrer la nouvelle année.

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail addresses Dow University of Health Sciences’ 11th Convocation 

Karachi, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) held its 11th convocation on Saturday at the Ojha campus, wherein a total of 3,179 graduates of year 2020 and year 2021 received their degrees in different disciplines, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, biotechnology, radiology, nursing and midwifery.

Two students also received their doctoral degrees. During the ceremony, 29 students were declared best graduates, whereas 171 students received gold, silver and bronze medals. Speaking at the ceremony, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, also the university chancellor, announced that the federal government would help university students take benefit from Prime Ministers’ Kamyab Jawan Programme and set up its office on the Ojha campus.

“If someone can put Pakistan on the path of development, it is you. Continue to work hard and brighten the country’s future,” the governor said, adding that only a sustained struggle could bring about durable success. He urged parents to support their daughters in pursuing their dreams. “They are seen more worried about their marriage than education. They don’t realise that girls are as talented as boys and need their [parents] assistance to harness their potential. Parents have a greater role to play in our society. They are the ones who can give their daughters the confidence required to face life.”

5th Parents Day held at Pakistan Navy Cadet College Ormara

Islamabad, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):An impressive Parents Day Ceremony was held at Pakistan Navy Cadet College Ormara (PNCCO). Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi graced the occasion as Chief Guest on arrival at college. Naval Chief was received by Principal PNCCO Commodore Masood-ul-Hasan and presented Guard of Honour by the cadets.

While addressing the ceremony, Chief of the Naval Staff congratulated the prize-winners and appreciated their performance in academics and co-curricular activities. HEC and Microsoft sign an Education Transformation Agreement geared towards education advancement in Pakistan 

Islamabad, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Microsoft in Pakistan has renewed the Education Transformation Agreement (ETA). Both organizations partnered once again to help enable positive changes to learning outcomes for the students in the country. The collaboration reimagines the education landscape, which is facing a lot of challenges, especially in post-Pandemic recovery. Under the umbrella of this academic alliance, Microsoft and HEC will be providing number of services to all HEIs in leveraging new technologies to make learning inclusive, personalized, and student centric by blending remote and physical classrooms.

This ETA will be providing universities with knowledge transfer workshops and trainings on trending Microsoft technologies including Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and Microsoft Azure. IG Punjab orders special crackdown against overloading and over speeding vehicles, buses and other transports

Lahore, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has issued orders for strict legal action against drivers and vehicles, buses, tractors / trolleys which endanger lives of citizens by overloading and over speeding on highways. Instructing RPOs, DPOs and District Traffic Officers, he said that special campaign should be launched in all districts across province against overloading and over speeding vehicles in fog and smog season. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that strict action should be taken against tractors / trolleys and other vehicles overloading in the areas of sugarcane crushing and tractors / trolleys or other vehicles overloading with sugarcane or straw should not be allowed to ply on highways.

IG Punjab said that strict action should be taken against overloading public and private transport especially buses and wagons. He also directed to launch special crackdown against over speeding vehicles, buses and other transports. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that both Punjab Highway Patrol and Traffic Police should play an active role in prevention of accidents and flow of traffic and provide all possible protection to lives and property of passengers. He issued these instructions to all RPOs, CPOs, DPOs and traffic police officers of the province.

IG Punjab while instructing the officers further said that reflector stickers should be affixed on slow moving vehicles, tractors, trolleys, donkey carts etc. on the highways. He further said that tractor trolleys should not be allowed to park in queues outside sugar mills and trolleys should be parked inside factories so that the flow of traffic outside and around these factories would not be affected at all.

Awareness campaigns on safe driving should be intensified for the convenience of citizens during fog season. In addition to it, citizens and transporters should also be assured to refrain from overloading and over speeding otherwise severe legal action will be taken. IG Punjab further said that all the districts should also send details of police operations against overloading and over-speeding to the Central Police Office on a regular basis.

Health Minister Sets Up Task Force on Genetic Disorders 

Lahore, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid on Monday directed the setting up of a Task Force for prevention and treatment of Genetic Disorders. She gave these directions while presiding over a meeting of the Punjab Thalassemia and Genetic Disorders Institute.

Present in the meeting were Director General Punjab Thalassemia and Genetic Disorders Institute Dr. Hussain Jaffery, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Professor Amir Zaman Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Child health Sciences professor Dr. Masood Sadiq, Professor Dr. Javeria Mannan, professor Dr. Shahnaz from Leeds University UK, Dr. Raja Tariq, Dr. Nadeem Anjum, Dr. Furqan, Dr. Yasmin Ihsan, Dr. Mushtaq from Leeds University UK, Professor Dr. Farkhanda Hafeez, Dr. Hammad Yaqub from University of Lahore, Professor Dr. Tipu Sultan, professor Huma Arshad Cheema and Dr. Nida Sikander.

The Health Minister reviewed suggestions to improve performance of the Punjab Thalassemia and Genetic Disorders Institute. DG of the Institute Dr. Hussain Jaffery shared the latest status of initiatives. In her speech, the Health Minister said, “The setting up of a Task Force on Genetic diseases is a key step as we are in the process of collection and analysis of precise data on genetic disorders. Health facilities are being scaled up to support patients of genetic disorders. Punjab is already running the world’s largest Thalassemia program. Latest technology is being introduced to ensure pre marriage thalassemia tests. Currently, work on counselling has been initiated.

University of Child health Sciences shall be a made a referral institute. Dr. Javeria Mannan and Dr. Yasmin Ihsan have served Thalassemia patients very well and they deserve appreciation. The use of latest technology will help us improve data on pre marriage tests. All stakeholders have gathered here to discuss the issue of genetic diseases in the province. Thalassemia patients are being provided universal health coverage. I want to congratulate Fatima Jinnah Medical University for publishing of three international articles. Linkage of all new eight mother and child health hospitals will be established with the university of child health sciences.”

In his remarks, Director General Punjab Thalassemia and Genetic Disorders Institute Dr. Hussain Jaffery said the task force shall help improve preventive and treatment services for patients facing genetic diseases. He thanked the Health Minister for her special focus on genetic diseases. In her speech, Dr. Javera Mannan said Punjab needed to improve work on prevention of genetic diseases. US Consul General called on Minister Local Government and Community Development Department Punjab

Lahore, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):US Consul General, William Makaneole called on Minister Local Government and Community Development Department Punjab Mian Mahmood Ur Rashed. On this occasion, Mian Mahmood Ur Rasheed apprised the US envoy regarding the new local government system of Punjab province. Political officer US Consulate General Khatijah Corey and Economic Specialist Sadaf Saad were also present in the meeting. Mian Mehmood Ur Rasheed informed the US Consul General that the new Punjab Local Government system is a historic step towards the establishment of empowered local governments.

In this regard, all the coalition parties have been taken into confidence. He said that another promise has been fulfilled to the people by introducing an effective local government system in Punjab. Unlike in the past, the new LG system ensures devolution of powers to lower levels. Development authorities, waste management companies, PHAs, WASAs, and parking companies will be subordinate to the metropolitan mayors, while at the district level, health, education, social welfare, population welfare, and sports authorities will be subordinate to the district mayors. Local bodies will be given full political, administrative, and financial power.

For the first time in the history of the province, Village Panchayat Councils will be formed in each village which will be responsible for the local watchdog system, street lights, sanitation, and resolution of minor disputes. He said that under the new system, a district assembly would be formed in each district. District representatives and Village Council representatives will use development funds according to local area priorities and will directly oversee development work. US Consul General, while appreciating the new Local Government System of Punjab, said that with a view to resolve public issues at the grass-root level, the establishment of village councils is a unique idea.
