Pakistan attaches special importance to bilateral ties with UK: FM Qureshi

Islamabad, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says Pakistan attaches special importance to its bilateral relations with the United Kingdom and desires for a strategic partnership to enhance trade and economic cooperation between both countries.

He was talking to British High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr Christian Turner who called on him in Islamabad on Thursday. The Foreign Minister said the role of 1.6 million Pakistanis diaspora living in the UK is of special significance in strengthening bilateral relations. The British High Commissioner assured his full support for the promotion of bilateral relations between the both countries.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi talking to Romanian Ambassador Nicolae Goia in Islamabad on Thursday said Pakistan desires to boost bilateral trade and economic relations with all European countries, including Romania, under strategic partnership with European Union.

He said Islamabad wants to high level interactions and delegation level exchange between the two countries for strengthening existing relations. The Romanian Ambassador assured that he will play his utmost role for further strengthening the bilateral relations of both the countries.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has expressed Pakistan’s desire to enhance trade, investment and people to people contacts with Oman. He was talking to a delegation of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad today (Thursday).

The Foreign Minister underlined the need for making functional Pakistan-Oman Joint Business Council. He said Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry should also participate in trade exhibitions in Pakistan. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan is extending facilitation including that of online visa for promotion of trade and tourism. He pointed out that Pakistan having a population of 220 million offers tremendous opportunities to the foreign investors.

Pakistan wants to expand bilateral cooperation with Greece in diverse fields: President 

Islamabad, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):President Dr. Arif Alvi says Pakistan highly values its ties with Greece and wants to further expand bilateral cooperation in diverse areas of mutual interest. Talking to the outgoing Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic Andreas Papastavrou in Islamabad on Thursday, he urged the need to enhance the bilateral trade between Pakistan and Greece, and tap the potential of cooperation in the fields of culture, education, and tourism. The President said that both countries had great potential to increase economic and cultural cooperation.

Highlighting the efforts made by Pakistan for the promotion of peace and stability in Afghanistan, he said a stable and peaceful Afghanistan would not only bring economic prosperity to Afghanistan but to other countries of the region as well.

Terming the recently 17th Extraordinary Session of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Pakistan as highly successful, he said that it attracted international support and economic assistance for the war-stricken people of Afghanistan. The President appreciated the services rendered by the outgoing Ambassador for promoting Pakistan-Greece relations and hoped that he would continue to play his role for further enhancing bilateral ties between the two countries.

Two soldiers martyred during exchange of fire in Tank 

Islamabad, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Two soldiers Sepoy Shoaib Hassan from Dera Ismail Khan and Sepoy Farid ullah from Karak have embraced shahadat while fighting gallantly against terrorists during a gun battle in Tank. According to the ISPR, security forces conducted Intelligence Based Operation simultaneously in Tank, Dera Ismail Khan and village Kot Kili in South Waziristan District. During intense exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed while three were arrested. Huge cache of ammunition was also seized from them.

Government will succeed in curbing inflation with concrete efforts 

Islamabad, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that incumbent government would complete its constitutional tenure as there is no danger, posed to it. In an interview, he said inflation is big challenge for the government. However, it would be reduced in coming months with concrete efforts.

The Interior Minister advised Pakistan Democratic Movement to change its date of protest and if they break the law, law would take its course. Replying to a question, he said Pakistan and China are enjoying strong relations as both the countries are imperative for each other.

To another question, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said a peaceful Afghanistan is in favour of Pakistan, but Pakistan would not step back from fencing on its boarders. He said that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan should surrender and accept the supremacy of law of the land.

1085 positive cases of coronavirus reported in country 

Islamabad, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Five deaths and 1085 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in the country in a day. In a tweet, National Command and Operation Centre informed that 46, 585 tests were conducted during the said period, and the positivity ratio remained 2.32% percent. It said that 636 patients are in critical care and the total death toll due to coronavirus has reached up 28,955.

Speakers urge world to respect right of self-determination granted by UNSC to Kashmiris

Islamabad, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):The world should respect the right of self-determination granted by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to the people of Kashmir and ensure implementation of promises made with the Kashmiris. This was stated by speakers at a webinar on the eve of Right of Self-determination Day hosted in the Canadian city of Toronto.

They said it is high time that the right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir is respected and granted to them as per the UN resolutions. They noted that only with mutual respect, peace could be achieved in Kashmir.

The event was hosted by Consul General of Pakistan Toronto Abdul Hameed who apprised the participants of the background to the Right to Self-Determination Day, the resolution of 5th January 1949 adopted by the UN Commission on India and Pakistan (UNCIP) to settle the future of Kashmir through a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations.

They said Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory, however, in violation of the UN resolutions and the Geneva Convention, the Indian government has introduced draconian laws to silence the Kashmiris and deprive them of their rights and land.

They called that the situation in Kashmir most unfortunate and the people of Kashmir have been forced to suffer under the yoke of 900,000 Indian troops despite the UN resolution granting them the right to self-determination. The Speakers include Canadian human rights activist and director of Canadian think-tank Just Peace Advocates Karen Rodman, Canadian author and journalist Robert Fantina, and others.

Rashid asks opposition to stop harming democratic system 

Islamabad, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has asked the opposition parties to stop creating hurdles in smooth running of democratic system for petty political gains. He was addressing the launching ceremony of his book “Lal Haveli to United Nations: 50 years of politics”, in Islamabad.

Sheikh Rashid said that the opposition has same responsibility to respect the democracy and political norms. He made it clear that opposition can face hurdles if it continues playing its negative role in the country’s politics.

Prime Minister congratulates Ministry of Communications, NHA for saving money through transparency

Islamabad, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Imran Khan has congratulated the Ministry of Communications and National Highway Authority for saving public money through transparency and digitisation.

In a tweet today (Thursday), he said regardless of price hike and inflation, the present government has constructed road infrastructure at a less rate when compared with the PML (N) government. He said there has been 125 percent increase in the revenue of National Highway Authority and land worth 5.18 billion rupees freed from encroachments.
