COVID-19 claims one more patient, infects 2,622 others 

Karachi, January 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):As many as one more patient of Coronavirus died overnight lifting the death toll to 7,694 and 2,622 new cases emerged when 11,783 tests were conducted. This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here on Saturday. He added that one more patient of COVID-19 lost his life lifting the death toll to 7,694 that constituted 1.6 percent death rate. Mr. Shah said that 11,783 samples were tested which detected 2,622 cases that constituted 22.2 percent current detection rate.

He added that so far 7,335,141 tests have been conducted against which 498,285 cases were diagnosed, of them 94.7 percent or 472,006 patients have recovered, including 161 overnight. The CM said that currently 18,585 patients were under treatment, of them 18,308 were in home isolation, 25 at isolation centers and 252 at different hospitals. He added that the condition of 229 patients was stated to be critical, including 18 shifted to ventilators.

According to the statement, out of 2,622 new cases, 2,404 have been detected from Karachi, including 997 from East, 653 South, 424 Central, 171 Malir, 101 West and Korangi 58. Hyderabad has 88, Thatta 26, Dadu 21, Shaheed Benazirabad 14, Sujawal 13, Badin eight, Jamshoro seven, Larkana and Tando Muhammad Khan six each, Matiari, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot four each, Ghotki, Sanghar and Sukkur two each, Kashmore and Naushero Feroze one each.

Vaccination: Sharing vaccination data the CM said that 31,514,974 vaccinations have been administered upto January 12th, and added during the last 24 hours 200,204 vaccines were inoculated – in total 31,715,178 vaccines have administered which constituted 57.33 percent of the vaccine eligible population. The chief minister urged people of the province to follow SOPs.

NCOC directs for taking stringent measures to tackle Omicron cases 

Islamabad, January 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The National Command and Operation Center has advised for taking stringent measures to tackle rising trend of Omicron cases and proposed Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs). In a meeting held in Islamabad today [Saturday], the forum decided to extensively engage with provinces especially Sindh for necessary measures to tackle rising disease.

It reviewed the existing NPIs and called on provincial health and education ministers session on 17 January 22 to suggest the new set of NPIs. It also decided to implement complete ban on inflight serving of food with effect from 17th of this month.

The NCOC asked the federating units to take strict measures against violators of existing SOPs and ensure enforcement of obligatory vaccination regime. The NCOC directed all quarters to fast-track vaccination drive and ramp up efforts to achieve vaccination targets.

Government sets Rs50b target for loans under KJP this year 

Islamabad, January 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Government has set the target of disbursing loans worth fifty billion rupees under Kamyab Jawan Program this year to promote entrepreneurship amongst youth and create job opportunities in the country. This was stated by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib and Special Assistant on Youth Affairs Usman Dar at a news conference in Islamabad today (Saturday).

Farrukh Habib pointed out that loans of thirty billions rupees were disbursed under Kamyab Jawan Program over the last two years under which twenty-two thousand new businesses were opened. This, he said, provided fifty thousand direct jobs to the youth and indirectly led to creation of thousands of other jobs.

The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting said start-ups are especially being promoted under Kamyab Jawan Program. He said a proposal will be floated in the cabinet for approval under which no guarantee will be sought from those acquiring loans up to two million rupees.

Farrukh Habib said under a ten billion rupees Skill for All Program, hi-tech certification is being provided to the youth in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, graphic designing and so on. He said under this program, scholarships have been awarded to one hundred thousand youth whilst another sixty-one thousand will be provided on 31st of this month.

He said the government is targeting to enhance its IT exports to three billion dollars during the current fiscal year and this skill development program will help strengthen our IT exports. In his remarks, Usman Dar said 2022 has been declared as the year of youth and different activities will be arranged during this year to promote soft image of Pakistan. He said we are also considering to launch sports scholarship program for the youth. Usman Dar said loans under Kamyab Jawan Program are being provided in the most transparent manner.

Year-2022 will be celebrated as Paigham-e Pakistan Aman and Salamati year: Ashrafi 

Islamabad, January 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Special Representative to Prime Minister on Interfaith Harmony Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has said that constitution of Pakistan provides equal rights to minorities. Addressing a news conference in Lahore today [Saturday], he said that minorities have full freedom to offer their prayers in their places of worship in Pakistan.

He said that Islam and all others religions preach peace, brotherhood and harmony among the people. He said that no single case has been registered on false blasphemy accusations. He said more than 50 bishops were assassinated and many mosques were demolished in India.

He said Indian government makes the lives of the minorities a hell whereas minorities are living peacefully in Pakistan according to their faiths. He announced year 2022 will be celebrated as Paigham-e Pakistan Aman and Salamati year and legislation will be enacted in this regard.

Government successfully addressed annual deficit of Pakistan Post after 12 years: Murad 

Islamabad, January 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Communication, Murad Saeed says government has successfully addressed the annual deficit of the Pakistan Post after twelve years under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan. In a series of tweets today [Saturday], he said the government is committed to make the institution as a brand with the cooperation of public.

Murad Saeed said that public’s confidence in the institution has increased due to government’s efforts as Pakistan Post has also improved its international rankings. The Minister said that the revenue of Pakistan Post was increased by 15 billion rupees in the last three years.

President approves ‘the Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2021-22’

Work on all mega development projects to be completed in stipulated time: Sarwar 

Islamabad, January 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan says government, its allies and establishment are on the same page on all issues of national importance. Addressing a news conference in Rawalpindi today [Saturday], he said opposition, despite being in majority, faced worst defeat in the Senate as it badly failed to bring no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Replying to a question about separate marches announced by the opposition parties, the minister said opposition cannot harm the government. He said opposition only wants to create anarchy in the country, which is not in the interest of the state. To another question, Ghulam Sarwar Khan said work on all mega development projects is underway, and these projects will be completed in the stipulated time.

China lauds Prime Minister Imran’s decision to attend opening ceremony of Beijing Winter Olympics Games 

Islamabad, January 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):China has highly appreciated and welcomed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to attend the opening ceremony of Beijing Winter Olympics Games next month. Addressing a regular briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will pay a three-day visit to China from February 3 at the invitation of the Chinese leadership.

During the visit, he will attend the opening ceremony of Winter Olympics Games, Beijing 2022 and will have interaction with the Chinese leadership to further strengthen Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. The Beijing Winter Olympics are scheduled from February 4-20 and the Paralympic Winter Games, March 4-13.
