JI India opposes move to raise legal age of marriage for women

New Delhi, December 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Jamaat-e-Islami India President, Syed Sadatullah Husaini has expressed concern over the Modi government’s move to raise the legal age of marriage for women to 21. The Modi Cabinet has recently approved the introduction of a new bill that would amend the ‘The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 (PCMA)’ to raise the legal age of marriage of women from 18 to 21 years.

The JI India President in a statement said, “We do not think it is a wise move to raise the legal age of marriage for women to 21 in India. Currently, there is a global consensus that the legal age of marriage for women should be 18 years. This is being followed in maximum countries including many developed countries. The government feels that increasing the age to 21 will increase the age of motherhood, lower fertility rates and improve the health of mothers and new-borns. However, data does not support this approach”.

The poor health indicators of mothers and young infants in India are because of poverty and malnourishment. “Raising the age limit will have no bearing on these health indicators if poverty and poor access to healthcare remain at existing elevated levels,” he added.

Husaini said that the move also goes against the law of nature. It will create psychological, medical, social and human rights issues. He asked the government not pass the law in haste, but evolve a consensus on the issue by initiating a dialogue with community leaders and subject matter experts from the associated domains.

Phones of SP leaders tapped by Yogi govt: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, December 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Samajwadi Party President, Akhilesh Yadav has said that phones of his party leaders were tapped by Yogi Govt and the “Chief Minister listens to the recordings every evening”. Akhilesh Yadav in press conference in Lucknow said that four of his close associates were raided by Income Tax officials in Uttar Pradesh and these raids were an indication that the BJP was going to lose the election.

He said that all landline numbers of his office were also being tapped by the BJP Yogi government. He said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was “unupoyogi” (unsuitable/useless) – a rejoinder to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in which he had said that ‘UPYogi’ is equal to ‘upyogi’ (suitable).

Akhilesh further said that the tactics of the BJP will increase as the elections get closer. “Abhi to Income Tax Department aaya hai, Enforcement Directorate aayega, CBI aayega (Right now, now the tax department has come, the Enforcement Directorate will and the CBI will join soon). ut the cycle (the Samajwadi Party’s poll symbol) will not stop,” Akhilesh added. The SP leader said that the BJP had adopted similar tricks in West Bengal during the elections earlier this year and the results were there for all to see.

Situation tense after two politicians killed in Kerala

Alappuzha, December 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):Indian state of Kerala has been rocked by back-to-back killings of two politicians belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party and Social Democratic Party of India. The SDPI and BJP leaders were killed in the coastal Alappuzha district of the state. Police authorities imposed Section 144 in Alappuzha district.

Police arrested around 50 persons, including general public as well as workers of the BJP, RSS and the SDPI, said the women police officer IG Harshita Attaluri to media. The officer claimed not all of the persons in custody were culprits and that the police were “examining and investigating” the two cases. K S Shan, the state secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Kerala, was brutally attacked on Saturday night while he was on his way back home and his party alleged the RSS was behind it.

Hours later, BJP’s OBC Morcha state secretary Ranjeet Sreenivas was hacked to death by some assailants who barged into his house on Sunday morning, police said. Police said it suspects the fatal attack on Sreenivas, also a member of the BJP state committee, was in retaliation to the killing of Shan.

Whole Kashmir stands rock solid behind agitating employees: Leaders

Srinagar, December 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have extended full support to the indefinite strike by the employees of Power Development Department against the attempts by the Modi regime to deprive them of their jobs in the name of privatization.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, Bashir Ahmad Irfani in a statement issued in Srinagar said such anti-Kashmir move was a big violation of international law. He said all Kashmiris should raise voice against such sinister designs of India. He urged international community including the UN, EU and OIC to intervene and resolve the Kashmir dispute as per UN resolution.

Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference Chairman Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Mahaz-e-Azadi President Mohammad Iqbal Mir, Tehreek-e-Istiqlal Chairman Ghulam Nabi Wasim and Tehree-e-Istiqamat Chairman Ghulam Nabi War in a joint statement said the strike by power development employees is justified and whole Kashmir stands rock solid behind their just struggle to stop India from pursuing its nefarious designs in IIOJK.

After abrogation of Article 370 India is extending black laws which are aimed at changing the demography of occupied territory by bringing outsiders in to settle and rob the locals of their resources. “The world community must stop India from selling Kashmir to its businessmen as it violates United Nations resolutions which bar India from changing the status quo in the occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement added.

Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement (JKPRM) also have expressed solidarity with the power department employees. The JKPRM at a meeting attended by its members including Vice chairman, Aijazul Haq, General Secretary Dr Musaib and Chief Spokesman Khan Umar in Srinagar appreciated the employees and urged people to raise voice against such anti-Kashmir move by India.

The JKPRM members also visited the residence of senior Tehreek-e-Hurriyet leader Syed Imtiaz Hyder in Budgam who was recently released from jail and lauded his stand and sacrifice for the Kashmir cause. Hurriyat AJK leader and JKMM Vice Chairman Abdul Majeed Mir hailed Pakistani Prime Minister for raising the plight of the Kashmiri people at the OIC platform.

India has revived ‘Catch and Kill policy’ in garb of fake encounters: APHC

Srinagar, December 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has expressed grave concern over the unabated extrajudicial killing spree carried out by Indian forces in the territory. The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar while paying rich tributes to the fake encounter victims of Harvan, Srinagar, and Pulwama strongly condemned the ruthless killings and said that Indian fascist regime was trying to suppress the ongoing resistance movement.

The spokesman recalled the notorious days of Ikhwan culture when the Indian occupation forces engaged some renegades and launched ‘Catch and Kill’ operation but the great people of Kashmir continued the freedom movement with more vigour and valour. “Today, Indian secret agencies and the fascist rulers, once again, have revived the catch and kill policy by organising fake encounters in the nook and corner of the occupied territory.”

Terming the policy as a worst violation of international law and fundamental human rights guaranteed by the Human Rights Declaration of 1948, the APHC spokesman said that even the prisoners of war avail better rights than the political activists belonging to the freedom movement of Kashmir and the civilian people.

He expressed the hope that the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and European Union would rise to the occasion to stand by the freedom loving people of Kashmir against the worst and fraudulent occupation of their motherland by India.

The spokesman said world bodies, keeping in view the widespread genocide and gross violation of human rights by the Indian forces in the occupied territory, must use their influence to pressure India to stop genocide and human rights abuses in Kashmir.

From lineman to engineer – all power department employees go on strike in IIOJK

Srinagar, December 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from lineman to engineer, all employees of power department are on strike against the privatisation move of the Modi-led fascist Indian government, plunging the most parts of the territory into darkness amid the chilling temperatures.

The PDD employees are protesting against Modi government’s decision to hand over the department’s assets to the Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), an Indian statutory corporation, headquartered in Gurugram, India, and engaged mainly in transmission of bulk power across different states of India, in the name of privatization. The employees see the move as a conspiracy hatched by the RSS-backed Modi government to install its people in place of local employees.

Talking to the media Convener, Jammu and Kashmir Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee, Munshi Majid Ali said, “We have called for an indefinite strike after the has government failed to address our issues” adding that Power Employees and Engineers resent Joint Venture of Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).

He said that the strike call was given after the coordination committee thoroughly discussed the burning issue of the formation of joint venture between JKPTCL and PGCIL for maintenance and development of Transmission and sub-transmission networks.

“Employees are aghast at this unilateral decision which is nothing but a step towards privatization of the already unbundled corporation. The members termed the inclusion of 33 KV network within the ambit of JKPTCL as unreasonable and illogical and a brazen violation of Electricity Act 2003.”

He said that a draft agreement of a proposed Joint Venture between JKPTCL and PGCIL Ltd has come to the fore which has taken the fraternity of Electrical employees by “surprise considering the covert and hasty manner in which the proposal has been mooted without taking the most important stakeholders (employees) on board.”

Furthermore, the employees, he added, have a long-standing trust deficit with the Modi government which at the time of unbundling befooled the employee associations promising various employee-friendly measures like regularisation of engineers working in In-charge capacity, creation of posts at various levels including engineering and non-engineering cadres.

Meanwhile, protests were displayed in many parts of the occupied territory due to power failure that remained hit from Friday midnight. The protestors have appealed to the administration to consider the demands of the agitating employees for early restoration of the electricity as people are facing many hardships due to power failure. The PDD employees have refused to resume their work and repair any fault unless the demands are met.

Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Power Employees Coordination Committee (JKPECC) Jaipal Sharma said that all the unions and associations from Linemen to senior Engineers across J and K are on indefinite strike as the stalemate continues because several rounds of talks with the Government has failed. “We will continue to agitate until our demands are considered,” said the Chairman.

The Modi regime has called Indian army soldiers at power stations in Jammu to restore electricity supply. Reacting to the development, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah in a tweet said that there no bigger admission of failure for a civilian administration than to call upon the army, it means a total breakdown of governance has been accepted by the authorities.

Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Monday criticised the Modi regime for deploying the Army to operate power stations in IIOJK. She said the plan for privatisation in the power sector was part of a larger “loot” of the territory’s natural resources. She tweeted, “GOI has made its criminal agenda behind scrapping J-K’s special status clear. Motive behind state sponsored loot of our natural resources – illegal auction of sand mining to outsiders, conversion of agricultural land to privatising power transmission is to plunge J-K into chaos.”

US reports confirms presence of ISIS in India, points out security ‘gaps’

Washington, December 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):The latest US State Department report on terrorism has confirmed presence of Indian-origin fighters affiliated with the global terror network Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) also known as Islamic State. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in the 2020 Country Reports on Terrorism, released this week, said, “There were 66 known Indian-origin fighters affiliated with the global terrorist group Islamic State.”

The report said that there were 66 known Indian-origin fighters affiliated with ISIS, as of November. “The National Investigation Agency examined 34 terrorism-related cases related to ISIS and arrested 160 persons, including 10 alleged al-Qaeda operatives from Kerala and West Bengal, in September,” the report added.

The US report, meanwhile, pointed towards the “gaps” in the Indian interagency intelligence and information sharing. It also said that Indian security forces demonstrate limited capacity to patrol and secure extensive maritime and land borders.
