AFCON 2023: Cameroon vs Gambia match preview, stakes’We have a collective agenda’ – says Cameroon defender

By Biwah Bryan

This will be just the second AFCON meeting between Gambia and Cameroon after facing off in the quarter-finals two years ago where Cameroon won 2-0

The said match will be Cameroon’s last chance to rescue their AFCON 2023 campaign, and will almost certainly need to beat Gambia at Stade de Bouaké on Matchday 3 to have a chance of advancing to the round of 16.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon hold just one point from their first two games in Group C having drawn against Guinea and suffered a loss to Senegal.

With that in mind, failure to secure a win in this match could potentially knock them out of the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Gambia find themselves in an even more dire situation with two losses and no point this far. They must emerge victorious against Cameroon and hope for favorable results from other games to advance as one of the best third-place teams.

In the current AFCON competition, Cameroon played a 1-1 draw against Guinea and a 1-3 loss to Senegal while Gambia on th
e other hand suffered defeats against Guinea and Senegal with a 0-1 and 0-3 score respectively.
