Eradication of corruption is the voice of whole nation; NAB is committed for corruption free Pakistan: Chairman NAB 

Islamabad, December 25, 2021 (PPI-OT):Honourable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal Chairman NAB has said that white collar crime mega corruption cases are top most priority of NAB. He said all resources are being used for their logical conclusion in order to bring big fish to justice who have looted billions of rupees from the country and the nation.

He said the radication of corruption today is the voice of the whole nation as corruption is not only a major obstacle in the way of national development and prosperity of the country but also deprives the deserving people of their due rights as per law.

He said that NAB has devised a comprehensive and effective anti-corruption strategy under the policy of accountability for all which includes awareness, prevention and enforcement. Excellent results of this strategy are pouring in besides enhancing reputation and image of NAB.

Chairman NAB said that Pakistan is committed to a corruption-free Pakistan. The outstanding performance of NAB was not only appreciated by leading national and international organizations like Transparency International Pakistan, World Economic Forum, PILDAT and Mashaal Pakistan. They also praised NAB’s efforts for eradication of corruption.

In addition, 59 percent of people expressed confidence in the NAB’s performance, according to the Gilani and Gallup polls. He said that for the first time the present administration of NAB had convicted 1194 corrupt elements through the esteemed accountability courts. The NAB has directly and indirectly recovered Rs 539 billion from corrupt elements during the last four years which has never been recovered in the past.

He said that NAB was set up in 1999 as an anti-corruption body. He said that NAB has recovered a total of Rs. 821 billion directly and indirectly since its inception which is a record achievement. National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) 1278 cases of corruption worth Rs. 1335 billion are under trial in various esteemed accountability courts.

He said that NAB is the chairman of SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum and also the focal organisation of Pakistan under United National Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). The National Accountability Bureau has also signed a unique memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation with China in overseeing CPEC projects and curbing corruption.

Other NAB achievements include setting up of state-of-the-art Forensic Science Laboratory in Rawalpindi, establishment of Pakistan Anti-Corruption Training Academy at NAB Headquarters. The academy will train investigative officers to investigate cases using state-of-the-art technology and equipment to eliminate white-collar crime.

He said that the National Accountability Bureau has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Higher Education Commission to make the students of universities and colleges across the country aware of the harmful effects of CONAB. This is a valuable initiative under which more than 50,000 character building societies have been established in universities and colleges across the country.

In order to improve the performance of the National Accountability Bureau, transparency and merit have been ensured in its enforcement level system. A high degree of transparency is maintained and monitored in the process from complaint verification to reference filing.

From confirmation of complaint to filing of reference The Joint Investigation Team’s theory has been introduced so that collective wisdom can be used to ensure a standard investigation process based on solid evidence. The Chairman NAB said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) firmly believes in accountability of others as well as self-accountability.
