HR abuses against Dalits by upper caste Hindus new normal in India

Islamabad, December 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Being born in a Dalit family is a curse in India as human rights abuses against Dalits by upper caste Hindus have become a new normal in the country. A report released by Kashmir Media Service, today, said Dalits in India are not allowed to drink from those wells or attend those temples that are being used by upper caste Hindus.

It said Dalits, also known as untouchables, are relegated to lowest jobs in India and have been victims of Hindu caste system for centuries besides subjected to numerous forms of caste discrimination and brutal violence. The report said, Dalits live in constant fear of being publicly humiliated by upper caste Hindus in India and are considered impure and outcastes. Merely walking through an upper-caste neighbourhood is a life-threatening offense for a Dalit in the so-called largest democracy, it added.

The report deplored that Dalit women were frequently paraded naked, beaten and raped with impunity by upper caste Hindus, saying on average three Dalit women are raped and two are murdered every day in India. It revealed that incidence of violence against Dalits has climbed significantly since fascist Modi’s ascension to power and have witnessed systematic marginalization in Modi’s regime. The report maintained that the world must come forward to save the Dalits from persecution by upper caste Hindus.
