Jammu traders’ body decries IIOJK admin’s weekend lockdown-like illogical decisions

Jammu, February 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu (JCCI) has strongly criticized the unilateral decision of the authorities on imposition of Covid-19 related weekend lockdown, saying that the interests of distressed traders and retailers in the territory are being ignored with these illogical decisions.

The JCCI President Arun Gupta, in a statement, said that the traders of Jammu have been suffering huge losses due to a bizarre weekend lockdown, which remains effective from Friday afternoon to early Monday every week in the territory.

He maintained that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu and other traders’ associations were not taken into confidence or consulted before imposing the weekend lockdown order. Gupta while expressing his concern and solidarity with the employees who have been losing jobs due to restrictions on guest entries and time in restaurants and hotels in Jammu said, “I am surprised that there are many [Indian] states where the positivity rate is above 20% and no weekend restrictions have been imposed but in Jammu despite below 5% positivity rate, strict restrictions including weekend lockdown have been imposed.

The administration has been ignoring the interests of traders and retailers just to become number one in managing Covid pandemic”. He added that not only the hotel industry but other businesses are also facing losses due to weekend lockdown.
