Man’s ID card confiscated by Police in Douala

A man is seeking help after four police officers confiscated his ID card and abandoned him in Bonaberi.

Tabot Ernest Tabot claims that on Wednesday evening July 10, 2024, around 8 pm, he was stopped by four police officers and forced to accompany them on his motorbike. The officers disappeared shortly after, leaving him stranded until 10:45 pm.

Since then, Mr. Tabot has visited multiple police stations searching for his ID card, incurring significant transportation costs. He has reportedly spent over 5,000 CFA francs on transportation alone.

Mr. Tabot urged authorities to investigate the incident and return his ID card.

ID card production in Cameroon has been a huge task with many going for years without having the most ‘precious’ document in Cameroon. The cost rose to FCFA 10,000 when President Paul Biya degreed its increment.

The government said the hike is to facilitate the production of quality cards within 48 hours shortly.
