Masarrat Aalam appeals IIOJK people to observe Jan 26 as Black Day

Srinagar, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, incarcerated Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Masarrat Aalam Butt, has appealed to the Kashmiri people to mark India’s Republic Day, the 26th January, as a Black Day and observe civil curfew across the territory to register an exemplary peaceful protest against the Indian illegal occupation.

Masarrat Aalam Butt in a message from New Delhi’s notorious Tihar jail said a country involved in war crimes and human rights abuses has no right to make big claims of being a largest democracy.

Announcing a protest calendar, he said that a complete shutdown in Kupwara district should be observed on 25th January to commemorate the gruesome massacre in Handwara town of the district. At least 26 peaceful protesters, demanding their inalienable right to self-determination, were gunned down and hundreds of others were injured critically by the Indian troops in Handwara town on January 25 in 1990. Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Handwara, he pledged to carry the sacred cause of freedom to its logical conclusion despite the Indian suppression and repression.

The APHC Chairman denounced the Indian fascist regime for its systematic heinous criminal record, genocide and the worst kind of human rights abuses in IIOJK. He urged the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to take cognizance of the prevailing volatile situation in IIOJK.

Meanwhile, the APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar expressed concern over the critical situation faced by the people of Kashmir ahead of India’s so-called Republic Day on 26th January, which the freedom-loving people of Kashmir have always observed as Black Day. He said, the enforced lockdown and the heavy deployment of additional forces in the territory have created an atmosphere of terror where the common people feel insecure about their life, honour and dignity.

The spokesman lamented that frequent cordon and search operations, undeclared flag marches within the residential areas during the cold nights had turned the occupied territory into a military garrison where life of people had become miserable.

The spokesman reiterated the protest calendar issued by the incarcerated APHC Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt from Tihar Jail wherein he appealed the people of Kashmir to observe complete shutdown in Kupwara district on 25th January and maintain civil curfew on 26th of January and mark the Indian Republic Day as a Black Day. He stressed the need for an early resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions.

APHC leader, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, in a statement in Srinagar strongly condemned the harassment of the Kashmiri people in the name of so-called security measures ahead of Indian Republic Day. He said the people of Kashmir have been peacefully striving for their right to self-determination for the last seven decades and the Indian rulers, sooner or later, will have to resolve the Kashmir dispute by giving them their inalienable right.
