Muslims facing heightened persecution in Modi’s India

Islamabad, February 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Persecution of Muslims has sharply increased since Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took power in India in 2014 as Hindutva activists are continuously targeting Muslims across the country. Anti-Muslims sentiments have heightened under Modi-led fascist Indian government and Muslims are being threatened, harassed and attacked with impunity in India, said a report released, today, by Kashmir Media Service.

It said the RSS-backed BJP regime promotes Hindu supremacy in India as Muslims are forced to convert to Hinduism through violent Ghar Wapsi campaigns. Ghar Wapsi (Hindi, meaning “coming home”) is the programme of religious conversion to Hinduism from Islam, Christianity and other religions, conducted by extremist Hindu organisations Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and their allies. The term owes to the Hindutva ideology that all people of India are ancestrally Hindu and, hence, conversion to Hinduism is one of “coming home” to their ancestral roots. These organizations intensified the implementation of this programme after the formation of Narendra Modi-led fascist government in 2014.

The report said Muslims are being discriminated against in all spheres of life in Modi’s India. Islamophobia has taken a most lethal form in India and Muslims have been turned into a persecuted minority, it added, citing the statement of renowned scholar, Noam Chomsky.

The report deplored that the BJP leaders are openly inciting crimes against Muslims as the Hindutva hate-mongers are openly calling for mass killings and use of weapons against Muslims in the country. The experts, the report maintained, have warned of impending genocide of Muslims in India and termed attacks on Muslims a challenge to the global community.
