Islamabad, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The National Assembly Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division meeting held today at 11:00 a.m. in Conference Hall of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Headquarters, Ground Floor, F- Block, Pak- Secretariat, Islamabad. Ms. Saira Bano, Chairperson of Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division presided over the meeting.
Noman Ali, Director National Socio Economic Registry (NSER) gave detailed presentation on the Survey currently completed under the Government Ehsas Program initiated for registering the actual needy and poor people across the country.
The main objective of NSER is: ‘to ensure objectivity in identifying beneficiaries and for transparency in implementing interventions, effective targeting of BISP beneficiaries’. Ms. Sania Nishtar Chairperson BISP and Naveed Akbar, Director General BISP later also participated in the meeting and gave comprehensive briefing on Survey process including data collection of Households of the actual needy and poor people, its mechanism to address the errors of data collection, detail of poverty indicators and allocation of sources.
They further informed that at each Tehsil level Ehsas Registration Desks have been established for the leftover poor people from the survey. The Members of the Committee expressed dissatisfaction on the Survey conducted through the Aurat Foundation and other NGOs and recommended that the Public Representatives should also be involved in identifying and registering the poor people in their constituencies under the Government Ehsaas Program.
The Committee further decided that PSDP for financial year 2022-23 would be discussed in the next meeting. The meeting was attended by MNAs: Syed Mehmood Shah, Ms. Shagufta Jumani, Mr. Lal Chand, Ms. Kiran Imran Dar, Ms. Nuzhat Pathan, Ms. Aliya Hamza Malik and Ms. Sania Nishtar Chairperson BISP and Officers/Officials of the said Division and BISP and its attached Departments.
