OIC FMs call on Foreign Minister Qureshi in Islamabad 

Islamabad, December 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi held a meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad today (Saturday). Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan, being immediate neighbour of Afghanistan, is making all possible efforts for the humanitarian assistance of the Afghan people.

The Foreign Minister said we have completed arrangements to provide food and medicines including fifty thousand metric tonne of wheat to Afghanistan. He said Pakistan is consistently trying to draw world attention towards the plight of Afghan people. Shah Mahmood said hosting the OIC meeting is part of those efforts. He said we are trying to give a message to the world community through this meeting to come forward for the peace and stability of Afghanistan whilst learning a lesson from mistakes of the past.

The Foreign Minister said an inclusive government in Afghanistan and protecting the human rights especially of women are in the interest of the new Afghan setup. Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov called on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad today and exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional situation and matters relating to mutual interest.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi thanked his Turkmen counterpart Rasit Meredow for visiting Pakistan to attend extraordinary session of the OIC Foreign Minister Council being held in Pakistan tomorrow. He said Turkmenistan is an important country of Central Asia and Islamabad attaches utmost importance to its relations with Ashgabat. He said Pakistan, under its Vision Central Asia policy, desires meaningful and durable relations with the Central Asian states.

The Pakistan Foreign Minister emphasized on undertaking joint efforts to promote bilateral trade and connections. He said Pakistan will be happy in helping Turkmenistan to promote its trade relations with the Middle East and Africa through Gwadar and Karachi ports. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan is determined to complete the TAPI gas pipeline project at the earliest.

He said Pakistan is eager to host 48th meeting of OIC Foreign Minister’s Council in March next year. He said hosting consecutive meetings of the OIC Foreign Minister Council reflects Pakistan’s seriousness toward the Muslim Ummah. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan considers OIC as a strong voice of the Muslim Ummah and wishes an effective role of OIC to resolve issues like Islamophobia, peace and security and regional conflicts.

Calling for immediate measures to avert the looming humanitarian crisis in Pakistan, he said any slackness in this regard will have adverse consequences for the world. The Turkmen Foreign Minister thanked Shah Mahmood Qureshi for extending warm and sincere reception.
