President calls for increasing trade crossing points with neighbouring countries

Islamabad, January 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): President Dr Arif Alvi has called for increasing the trade crossing points with the neighbouring countries in Balochistan that would greatly help generate economic activities as well as enhance quantum of exports.

 

Addressing a meeting on Borders and Trade Management in Balochistan in Islamabad on Monday, he asked the concerned organizations to take steps for facilitating the importers and exporters of the border areas of Balochistan to enhance the country’s exports. The President asked the relevant departments to take practical steps for improving ease of doing business and help facilitate the transportation of goods from Balochistan to other provinces.

 

The meeting emphasized the need for easing and expediting the process of granting NOCs to foreign investors as well as facilitating the businessmen of Central Asian States to import and export their goods through Gwadar Port. In order to boost bilateral trade with Afghanistan, the Finance Minister informed that it had been decided to trade with Afghanistan in local currency.

 

He assured that his Ministry would provide all necessary support at trading points with neighbouring countries to help the traders of Balochistan. Meanwhile, President Dr Arif Alvi has emphasized the need for extending robust internet connectivity across Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan so as to fully cover all population pockets and highways in these areas.

 

Chairing a meeting on extending sustainable robust internet connectivity across in Islamabad on Monday, he said that steps were being taken to ensure availability of high-quality ICT services in the country. The meeting was attended by the Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Syed Amin ul Haq, Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan, Khalid Khursheed, Minister for IT AJK, Muhammad Iqbal and other officials.

 

The President said that the provision of broadband connectivity and internet coverage to the both areas would contribute towards the promotion of e-education and generating job opportunities for the local people. He said that the government strongly believed in mass adoption of emerging digital technologies and innovative applications to enable cross sector socio economic development.

 

He added that AJK and GB are attractive destinations for tourists and it was the key priority of the government to ensure the availability of robust internet services in these areas. He appreciated the role of SCO for providing broadband connectivity to the people of AJK and GB. Director General, SCO briefed the meeting about the steps taken by his organization for providing broadband coverage to the citizens of AJK and GB.
