The 29th meeting of the Standing Committee on Commerce held under the Chairmanship of Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA 

Islamabad, February 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Committee was briefed about the proposed Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) of the Ministry of Commerce for the financial year 2022-2023. The Committee discussed two ongoing projects; the Expo Center Peshawar and Expo Center Quetta and four new schemes; Faisalabad Garment City Phase-II, Lahore Garment City Phase-II, Integrated Skill Development Scheme for Export enhancement of Textile and Apparel Industry, and Compliance Outreach Program for Export Competitiveness of Textile Industry.

The Chair expressed huge concern on the non-completion of ongoing projects for the last 7 years. The Committee recommended the issuance of full demanded Allocation for Expo Center Peshawar. The Committee decided to invite the Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Planning and Development, for further consideration on the issuance of sufficient allocations and timely completion of these important schemes, in the next meeting of the Committee.

The Committee discussed in detail the simplification of the taxation system for Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan and other Central Asian Countries. The Chairman of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) shared his proposals before the Committee which were related to Pak-Afghan trade.

The Secretary of Commerce assured the Committee that the Ministry will consider all the proposals of the FPCCI. The Committee decided to invite the State Bank of Pakistan to the next meeting of the Committee. The Committee unanimously approved the minutes of its previous meeting.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Muhammad Yaqoob Shaikh, Mian Muhammad Shafiq, Ms. Wajiha Akram, Ms. Sajida Begum, Ms. Farrukh Khan, Mr. Usman Ibrahim, Rana Iradat Sharif Khan, Mr. Rasheed Ahmad Khan, Ms. Tahira Aurangzeb, Ms. Shaista Pervaiz, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and Syed Javed Ali Shah Jelani, MNAs. The meeting was also attended by Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood and Chairman FPCCI as Special Invitee.
