Islamabad, March 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):Participants of a seminar titled “The Role of Women in Raising Awareness on the Harms of Sugar Sweetened Beverages” to prevent obesity. They highlighted that over 800 million people worldwide are living with obesity and medical cost of obesity will exceed one trillion dollars by 2025 if timely steps are not taken.

They said obesity causes a variety of diseases, including type-2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, liver and kidney disease. Excessive consumption of sugary drinks is one of the major causes of obesity, the participants said that consumption of sugary drinks is a major cause of obesity and women should play an important role by keeping sugary drinks out of the reach of the youth.
