New Delhi, December 31, 2021 (PPI-OT):In a shocking incident, a Dalit minor girl was mercilessly beaten and tortured by an upper caste man supported by family members in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi. In the video which has gone viral on social media, two men can be seen holding the 16-year-old Dalit girl while a third person is beating her mercilessly. The teenage girl was accused of stealing.
Being punished for theft without any evidence to support the claim, the girl was dragged and thrashed multiple times as seen in the video. She was even dragged by her hair. After the video gone viral, an FIR has been lodged against three people. Circle Officer Arpit Kapoor of Amethi Police in a statement on Twitter has said they have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and arrested one Naman Soni so far.
Taking to the Twitter, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the Uttar Pradesh government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleging that there have been 34 such incidents of casteist crime and 135 incidents of crime against women in the state while the police are just taking a nap. Priyanka Gandhi also warned the UP police and government giving an ultimatum of 24 hours to arrest the guilty or face agitation. She also shared the video of the incident in her tweet.
