Srinagar, December 09, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that for the past three decades the abysmal human rights situation has shown no sign of improvement due to the unresolved Kashmir dispute.
The forum in a statement issued in Srinagar on the eve of Human Rights Day deplored that the situation in IIOJK has only worsened for people with time, being taken to another level since August 5, 2019, with enforcement of unprecedented lockdowns extra judicial measures and communications gags.
The people in the Muslim majority Jammu and Kashmir are being punished by those in power preciously for being Muslim majority, the statement said and added even fundamental human rights of the Kashmiri people are not protected. “An atmosphere of fear and intimidation has been created to coerce people of all sections of society.”
The forum maintained that black laws are ruling the roost in Jammu and Kashmir for the past three decades resulting in deaths extra judicial and custodial killings. “Tens of thousands of people have been subjected to enforced disappearance. Communication blockades and suspension of internet is almost a daily occurrence,” it said.
While denounced arrests, the forum said, thousands of activists, youth political workers, respected members of civil society, social workers and political leaders are languishing in jails without charges and access to legal course.
The forum appealed to international human rights organizations and United Nations Human Rights Council to play their part in ensuring that the Kashmir conflict is resolved and the fundamental human rights of people of J and K are respected. It urged these rights bodies to play their role in the release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and all other political leaders and activists including Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Aasiya Andrabi and Shahidul Islam.
