President directs SLIC to pay over Rs1.6m to deceased policyholders’ families

Islamabad, December 12, 2021 (PPI-OT):President Dr Arif Alvi has rejected four separate representations, filed by the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan against the decisions of Federal Ombudsman. The President ordered the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan to pay a collective sum of over 1.6 million rupees to families of the deceased life insurance policyholders.

The corporation had refused to pay the amount assured in the life insurance policy on the flimsy ground stating that the insured persons did not deliberately disclose their pre-insurance ailments at the time of obtaining the policy. The President upheld the decision of the Wafaqi Mohtasib and ordered that SLICP must fulfil its contractual obligations and pay up on the policy, besides reporting compliance to the Ombudsman within 30 days.

As per the details, Shakeel Zafar Khan, Muhammad Nawaz, Ghulam Yaseen, and Tanveer Hussain had obtained life insurance policies from SLICP for the sums assured of 700,000 rupees, 500,000 rupees, 210,000 rupees, and 200,000 rupees respectively.
