National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Energy (Petroleum Division) meets 

Islamabad, March 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):15th meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Energy (Petroleum Division) was held today at 2:30 pm under the Chairmanship of Dr. Imran Khattak, MNA in the Constitution Room, Parliament House. The agenda of the meeting was circulated vide Notice No. F.9 (1)/2022-Com-I (Vol-I), dated 25th February, 2022.

At the commencement of proceedings, the Committee offered Sura-e- fatiha for the deceased who lost their lives in Peshawar bomb blast today. Thereafter, the Committee was briefed about the status of recommendations made by the Committee during its previous meetings. The Federal Secretary, Petroleum Division apprized the Committee that 8 employees from the SSGCL were terminated from service on administrative grounds to establish good governance and writ of the management.

However, the Committee expressed its displeasure for removal of employees and sought report from SSGCL to be presented in the next meeting. It was further informed that the SSGCL has nominated an officer of the rank of SGM as focal person to deal with the issues of MNAs regarding shortage of gas in their constituencies.

The Committee was also brief about Weighted Average Cost of Gas (WACOG). As per the briefing, the WACOG model is meant for uniformity of pricing mechanism across the country. It will meet the deficiency in the OGRA law to determine consumer price of imported LNG.

Implementation status of the order passed by Islamabad High Court regarding promotion of employees in OGDCL was also discussed during the meeting. The Committee directed the OGDCL authorities to implement the recommendations/ decisions of Special Committee headed by the Defence Minister Mr. Pervez Khattak.

The Pakistan Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority Bill, 2022” was also considered by the Committee. However, the Bill was deferred for further deliberations after having inputs from the stakeholders and especially the Provincial Energy Departments.

MNA’s Mr. Junaid Akber, Malik Anwar Taj, Mr. Shahid Ahmad, Nawabzada Shah Zain Bugti, Chaudhary Khalid Javed, Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Sardar Muhammad Irfan Dogar, Mr. Murtaza Javed Abbasi and Mr. Ghous Bux Khan Mahar attended the meeting. Besides, Secretary, Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) as well as other senior officers of Federal / Provincial Government were also present in the meeting.

3 accused involved in Peshawar incident identified: Rashid 

Islamabad, March 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said that the three accused involved in yesterday’s despicable incident in Peshawar have been identified. In a video message today (Saturday), he commended the efforts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and the investigation agencies in this regard. He said the police will nab these accused in a matter of one or two days. The Minister also clarified that his ministry has not received any request from Nawaz Sharif for passport.

Commenting on the current political situation, Sheikh Rashid said the opposition parties have faced defeat in the Assembly in the past and they will again face defeat if they moved the no-confidence motion. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan will complete his five years tenure. He, however, regretted that some elements are trying to fan anarchy when the country is moving ahead.

Pakistan Embassy rescues India students after their embassy staff flees office 

Islamabad, March 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Embassy in Ukraine has rescued the Indian students after their own embassy officials left them stranded following the ongoing war. According to reports, the officials of Indian embassy neglected their obligation to ensure evacuation of their nationals and fled for their own survival.

Pakistan’s gesture of assisting the students from an arch-rival country won the hearts of many, including Indian nationals. At the same time they also criticized the Indian government for its failure to evacuate the Indian citizens.

Pakistan supports OIC for addressing humanitarian situation in Afghanistan 

Islamabad, March 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan has assured its full support to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in its efforts to galvanize international support for addressing the grave humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. The assurance was given by Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood during a meeting with the OIC Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Afghanistan Tarig Ali Bakheet in Islamabad.

The Special Envoy expressed his deep gratitude to Pakistan for its steadfast support. He underscored his strong commitment to continue working with OIC member states and Afghanistan’s international partners to ensure well-being and prosperity of Afghan people.

Peshawar blast part of a big conspiracy against the country: Information Minister 

Islamabad, March 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain says the Peshawar blast is part of a big conspiracy against the country. In a tweet, he reiterated the government’s resolve to thwart all inimical designs of the anti-state elements effectively. The Minister said Pakistan has effectively tackled such conspiracies in the past and the enemies will also fail again.

Some anti-Pakistan forces not digesting rapid development in country: Qureshi 

Islamabad, March 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said some anti-Pakistan forces are not digesting the rapid development being made by the country. He was addressing Haqooq-e-Sindh March in Tando Muhammad Khan.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the nation, armed forces, police and other law enforcing agencies have untidily defeated the terrorists and Pakistan is moving fast on the path of economic growth with foreign investment pouring in. The Foreign Minister said this situation is not acceptable to some antagonist forces, therefore they are carrying out terrorist attacks like the Peshawar blast to create uncertainty among the people.

Addressing a festival in Karachi, he underlined the need of diplomacy and dialogue for peaceful solution of all regional conflicts. Talking about Afghan peace process, the President said Pakistan hosted Afghan refugees for forty years as a goodwill gesture.

He was talking to former Federal Minister Ijaz-ul-Haq who called on him in Islamabad and discussed overall political situation in the country. During the meeting, public appreciation of the government’s flagship program of National Health Card was also discussed. Ijaz-ul-Haq thanked the Prime Minister for providing quality healthcare facilities to masses.
