Will write to Indian home minister to ensure Arsalan’s release: Mehbooba

Srinagar, January 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has said that she will write to Home Minister of India to ensure the release of Srinagar youth from India’s infamous National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Arsalan Feroz, a 19-year-old youth from Zaldagar, Srinagar, was arrested by NIA recently. The NIA in its official statement claimed that Arsalan was an over-ground worker, however, his family staged protest, terming the charges baseless. Mehbooba Mufti said that the family members of Arsalan, including his father, who has recently suffered a minor heart attack, came to meet her and vouched for his innocence.

“Arsalan is 19 years old who had earlier been arrested by police on 21st October last year. After spending over 40 days in police detention, he was cleared by police and accordingly released. I don’t know why the NIA arrested him, though family handed him over to the agency,” Mehbooba Mufti said. Mehbooba Mufti said that since police have no jurisdiction over NIA and the probe agency directly falls under the India Home Ministry, she will write to the Home Minister of India about it.

Seven police personnel include two each from Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts and one from Kishtwar while 161 cops, who are under radar in Kashmir, belonged to all 10 districts of the Valley. However, out of 168 police officers/officials, whose cases are under review, two are in the rank of Inspectors, 11 Sub Inspectors and 49 Assistant Sub Inspectors. The rest are in the ranks of Head Constables, Selection Grade Constables, Constables and Followers.

“The track record and credentials of the police personnel will be examined minutely. Their performance and role, if any, in subversive and militant activities will be looked into,” the officials said. As per the officials, this is for the first time that such a major exercise has been initiated by the Modi regime to purge the police of its Muslim cadres.

“And the action is expected to be taken shortly after approval of the concerned authorities,” they added. The process of terminating more Muslim officials/officers from their services is under way. It may be mentioned here that the Modi regime has already dismissed many officers on baseless charges including some in the gazetted rank and Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services (JKAS).
