In a tweet on Tuesday, he said public transport in Karachi will change forever. He said that 20646 people used the modern Green line buses in Karachi on Monday on the very first day of its normal commercial operation.

UN Chief expresses condolences on loss of lives in Murree incident

One billion trees to be planted in 2022: Amin Aslam 

Islamabad, January 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):The government has set a target of planting one billion trees across the country during the current year. This was stated by Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam while talking to media persons after inaugurating the urban Miyawaki Forest in Rawalpindi. He said over 600 million saplings would be planted in all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan, under first target set for the spring plantation starting from 15th of this month.

Tax reforms to help bring Rs20trn retail sector into tax net: Tarin 

Islamabad, January 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin says the reforms measures being taken by government will bring the retail sector worth 20 trillion rupees into the tax net. Briefing the Senate’s Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue in Islamabad, he said the total sale of retail sector in the country is 20 trillion rupees but 16 trillion rupees of it is not in the tax net.

The minister said the Federal Board of Revenue has refunded about 50 billion rupees in six months, which has never happened in any government’s tenure. Shaukat Tarin said the International Monetary Fund wants to tax 700 billion rupees but the government brought the target down to 343 billion rupees through negotiations. He clarified that all amendments pertaining to the tax are not being undertaken under the IMF’s pressure, as the government already had the agenda to bring tax reforms for socio-economic development of the common man.

Pakistan, Qatar agree to address all outstanding issues pertaining to development of LNG terminals 

Islamabad, January 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan and Qatar have agreed to address all outstanding issues pertaining to the development of LNG terminals and finalize the final investment decision by the end of this month. The understanding was reached during videoconference between Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi and Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi on Tuesday.

Minister Al-Kaabi, who is also the President and CEO of Qatar Energy, said Qatar Energy fully supports and will be a shareholder in one of the private sector LNG Terminals being set up at Port Qasim. Qatar’s Minister of State will visit Pakistan at the signing of implementation agreement.

Government prepares effective National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy 2022: Shibli 

Islamabad, January 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz has said the government has prepared National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy 2022 for socio-economic development of the country. Speaking in a program of Radio Pakistan on Tuesday, he said the policy will encourage import substitution and focus on bolstering exports.

He said our aim is to take the country towards self-reliance for economic sovereignty of the country. Shibli Faraz said the country’s exports should be around one hundred billion dollars in the period between 2025 and 2028.

He said that the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policies were also framed in the past but these remained ineffective. He said our policy has an action plan to ensure its implementation. Shibli Faraz said we have created synergies amongst the relevant institutions for the product development and innovation.

Responding to a question, the Minister for Science and Technology said a National Science Expo is being organized at Pakistan-China Friendship Center from 28th of this month to showcase innovative projects in the fields of science and technology. He said the last date for booking stalls at the expo is 15th January.

The Minister for Science and Technology said the use of Electronic Voting Machines will change our whole electoral landscape. He said the EVMs will be used in the upcoming local government elections of the federal capital. He said the EVMs are a reality now and these will help make the elections transparent.

Government giving special emphasis to bring improvement in living standards of masses: Asad 

Islamabad, January 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has said the government is giving special emphasis to bring improvement in the living standards of the people especially the deprived segments of the society.

Inaugurating Ehsaas One Window Office in Islamabad on Tuesday along with some other cabinet members, he said we are moving forward as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to transform Pakistan into a welfare state on the model of State of Madina. He said the inauguration of Ehsaas One Window office will help facilitate the deserving families’ access all the Ehsaas related facilities under one roof.

In his remarks, Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood said that the scope of Ehsaas Scholarship program has been expanded to the intermediate level. He said this is a major step which will help boost education especially that of girls. Minister for Industries and Production Khusro Bakhtiyar said Ehsaas Ration scheme has been started to provide essential commodities to the deserving families at subsidized rates.

In her remarks, Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation Sania Nishtar said it is our effort to spread the network of Ehsaas One Window to facilitate the deserving families. She said poverty survey has been completed and a large number of deserving families have been enrolled in Ehsaas Kafalat Program. She said that cash payment under this program is being enhanced from twelve thousand rupees to thirteen thousand rupees from March.

Government focuses to develop new tourist spots: Rashid 

Islamabad, January 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid says the government has planned to explore new tourist spots in a bid to revitalize the tourism industry and project a positive image of country globally through modern means of communication. Talking to media in Islamabad, he said that there is a dire need to explore almost 10 to 15 new tourist spots to create options for travellers.

He said the record-breaking snowfall was occurred after decades in Murree which created such a challenging situation saying he would ensure proper management in the future. The minister further said that situation in Murree is consistently being monitored and till this evening all routes would be cleared.
