Christian leaders’ memo to Indian President seeking protection from Hindutva violence in India

New Delhi, January 24, 2022 (PPI-OT): The Christian priest and community leaders have decided not to suffer in silence any more on threats from Hidnutva outfit VHP and Bajrang Dal, in Indian state in Madhya Pradesh. The Christian community made an appeal to the President of India and the Chief Justice of India (CJI) for their intervention in the matter and ensure safety as the outfits like VHP and Bajrang Dal, they said are infringing on the democratic rights of Christians on the pretext of a false claim about forced conversions.

Having borne the brunt of relentless Hindutva violence, which has witnessed a spike in recent months in BJP-ruled states. In a memorandum addressed to President Ram Nath Kovind and CJI N V Ramana along with other top constitutional authorities, a group of priests from the state drew their attention to the nefarious activities of extremist groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal in the state. These outfits, they added, are infringing on the democratic rights of Christians on the pretext of a false claim about forced conversions.

“They make false allegations of religious conversion against the priests and pastors in the community, carry false social media propaganda against us, and register false police complaints against us,” read the memorandum. Accusing the police of bias in favour of the Hindutva groups, they said that the men in uniform have failed to protect the community from the violent mob attacks on them.

“We are terrorised and living in fear. We are being falsely projected as religious converters,” UCA news d Father Rocky Shah, one of the signatories to the memorandum and public relations officer of Jhabua Diocese, as saying. The state of Madhya Pradesh has witnessed a spurt in Hindutva violence targeting Christian community since the passage of a law that criminalises religious conversion of Hindus to other faiths.

Country may see another partition if divisive politics does not stop: Bose’s Grandson

New Delhi, January 24, 2022 (PPI-OT): The grandson of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose has urged all political leaders to stop divisive politics and follow the leader’s ideology. Chandra Kumar Bose talking to media men in New Delhi, said the government should think beyond the statue and adopt Netaji’s ideology as he believed in but even after 75 years, questions are being raised on the unity of the country.

“We should stop communal and divisive politics, because maybe we can win elections with that but will lose the nation. When country will not exist, what good is of winning polls,” he asked. He said: “The time has come to use Netaji’s ideals in national politics. If we do not, the partition will happen again and we do not want to see 1947 again.”

Bose said, “Common man does not want division in society. Everyone wants to live united. I urge all political parties to stop divisive politics and follow Netaji’s ideals, failing which the country may see another partition in the next 50 to 100 years, and the future generations will be unable to see undivided India.”

“We should stop communal and divisive politics, because maybe we can win elections with that but will lose the nation. When country will not exist, what good is of winning polls,” he asked. When asked why he thinks the country will face another partition in 50 to 100 years, he said: “Bengal, Northeast, Kerala and Tamil Nadu may be separated, then you stay with Uttar Pradesh. Divide and rule policy of Britishers is still continuing. The state and central governments are also being run on divisive lines. Elections in Uttar Pradesh are being held on caste lines, but Netaji ended caste system. We all are one.”

On being asked why he is raising questions at the BJP-led government, as he has been a part of it, he said: “I don’t like politics of the BJP, I follow Netaji’s ideology and do not compromise on it. I joined the BJP because I was told that Netaji’s ideology will be spread, but it has not happened. If they will tell me that it will not happen, I will leave the party.”
