Pakistan, US on same page regarding peace, stability in Afghanistan: Asad Majeed

Islamabad, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): Pakistan and the United States have complete unanimity of views on the need for peace and stability in Afghanistan and to ensure that the Afghan soil is not used for terrorist activities. In a virtual conversation on Pakistan-US relations and regional dynamics in South Asia, Pakistan Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan said two countries agree on the importance of an inclusive government and protection of human rights including women rights and girl education in Afghanistan.

He said the most urgent issue is to avert a humanitarian crisis and economic collapse in Afghanistan that could lead to a refugee crisis as well as resurgence of terrorism and narco-trade in Afghanistan.

Fascist Modi regime committing worst human rights abuses against minorities: National Security Adviser

Islamabad, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): National Security Adviser Dr Moeed Yusuf has said fascist Modi regime in India is committing the worst human rights abuses against minorities. Talking to private TV channel, he said now the Western media is highlighting grave human rights’ violation and persecution of minorities in India. He said the interests of the Western world are derived by the size of Indian economy which is halting them from raising their voice against state-sponsored violence on the minorities in India.

Exports, tax collection and agricultural produce witnessing continued increase: Farrukh

Islamabad, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib says despite Covid-19, global high inflation and other economic challenges, Pakistan has achieved a sustainable growth rate of 5.37 percent. In a tweet, the minister said exports, tax collection and agricultural produce are witnessing continued increase.

He said in the first half of the fiscal year, IT exports increased by 35.8 percent, FBR tax recovery by 32.4 per cent whereas State Bank of Pakistan reserves by 31.8 percent. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said textile exports increased by 26 per cent, services exports by 20.4 percent whereas; remittances increased by 13.3 percent.

Finance Minister directs to monitor prices of essential items

Islamabad, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin directed that efforts should be made to keep the prices of essential items in check and ensure their smooth supply throughout the country. Chairing a meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee in Islamabad, the Minister expressed satisfaction on the availability of sufficient stocks of wheat.

He advised the Ministry of National Food Security and Research to formulate a strategy to optimally maintain its strategic reserves to meet any difficult situation. The committee was informed that the price of wheat flour is almost stable across the country.

Pakistan decides to restore NADRA facility in Consulate General, Toronto

Islamabad, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): Pakistan has decided to restore National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) facility in the Consulate General, Toronto for the convenience of compatriots seeking NADRA services. This was disclosed during an online public forum-cum-e-Katchehry organized by the Pakistan High Commission in Canada that was hosted by Consul General of Pakistan Toronto Abdul Hameed. Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Hameed said the decision to re-establish NADRA facility in Toronto has been taken in view of difficulties faced by community members in accessing NADRA services.

LRBT ophthalmologist’s delegation leaves for depart to Niger

Islamabad, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): A seven-member team of experienced ophthalmologists from Layton Rehmatullah Benevolent Trust, Pakistan has departed for Niger to conduct cataract surgeries and training of doctors. According to spokesperson of COMSTECH, Pakistani mission in Niger in coordination with Islamic Development Bank has scheduled to arrange eye camps for cataract surgeries and training workshops in Niamey from 31 of this month to 7th of next month. The team during its visit will conduct more than 400 cataract surgeries.

The Pakistani team will also launch awareness campaign about eye health and will visit local schools as well. All the consumables and medicines for these eye camps will be transported from Pakistan. A COMSTECH and LRBT team visited Niamey last year and conducted 25 cataract surgeries, serviced and repaired all the faulty equipment and made it available for screening and cataract surgeries.

Pakistan calls for unfreezing Afghanistan’s financial reserves to revive its war-battered economy

Islamabad, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): Pakistan has strongly called for unfreezing Afghanistan’s financial reserves to revive its war-battered economy and to save lives of millions of suffering Afghans. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram said there is no legal justification for depriving Afghan people of their national assets. He urged international community to respond positively to UN humanitarian and refugee response appeals.

Pakistani envoy said Pakistan has provided thirty million dollars in food and other assistance and currently supports nearly four million Afghan refugees. Reaffirming the importance of combating terrorism in Afghanistan and in ensuring that its territory is not used by any terrorist group, Munir Akram said we are glad that sponsors of terrorism against Pakistan have been obliged to exit from Afghanistan.
