Delimitation intends to get a malleable J and K assembly to rubber-stamp decisions: NC

Srinagar, January 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference (NC) has said it will continue with its fight against all detestable efforts by the Modi regime to dispossess people of Jammu and Kashmir of their democratic and constitutional rights. This was said by party central leader Nasir Aslam Wani while addressing a function at Aarigam, Khan Sahib and Budgam.

Claims of reaching out to Kashmiris have gone away in wake of the widespread unemployment, bad governance and development deficit in Kashmir, Nasir said, adding that the party is fighting on multiple fronts to get back the vital interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Slamming the Modi govt for fiddling with institutions to disempowered Kashmiris, Nasir said that local institutions were being tampered with to unseat locals from power positions and curtail the already scant job avenues of our educated youth.

“The policies pursued by the government besides kindling alienation among our educated youth are also whipping up a deep identity and personality crisis amongst them. Amidst the acute challenges of survival, our promising youth have been turned into sheer despondent and alienated beings with a risk of victimization of various kinds. We are fighting a battle to secure their rights,” he said.

He said the main agenda of the lopsided Delimitation draft is to get a malleable legislative assembly to rubber-stamp decisions. “Delimitation commission draft is unacceptable to us. We have rejected it outright. The draft has lost sight of rules of representation. It has been crafted to drive wedge between different sections and regions of Jammu and Kashmir. It intends to deprive a greater chunk of the population of their democratic rights.

Message from Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Kashmiris’ right to self-determination day – 5th January 2022

Islamabad, January 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):Today marks the completion of 73 years since the United Nations committed that the Jammu and Kashmir Dispute would be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite. Through its resolution of 05 January 1949, the United Nations Security Council affirmed its support to the realization of inalienable right to self-determination of Kashmiris.

Self-determination is one of the fundamental rights codified in all major human rights instruments as well as the United Nations Charter. The denial of this right and subjugation of Kashmiris in IIOJK is negation of human dignity.

Unfortunately, this right has not yet been realized for Kashmiris because of continuing oppression by India in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). In the last seven decades, three-generations of Kashmiris have rendered tremendous sacrifices for their just struggle, yet their human dignity is being violated on daily basis in IIOJK.

Since its illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019, India has been relentlessly pursuing further consolidation of its illegal military occupation, including through land confiscation, influx of non-Kashmiris and creation of alien settlements in IIOJK in flagrant violation of international law especially the UN Charter, relevant UNSC resolutions and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

The surge in fake encounters and so-called cordon-and-search-operations has resulted in the martyrdom of over 500 Kashmiris since 5thAugust 2019. This is abhorrent manifestation of the callous behaviour and moral bankruptcy of BJP-RSS combine.

India must realize that the use of brutal force against the Kashmiri people, including extra-judicial killings, custodial torture, enforced disappearances, incarceration of Kashmiri leadership and youth, use of pellet guns, destruction of houses to inflict collective punishment on the Kashmiri communities, and other methods of subjugation have failed in the past and will not succeed in the future.

The indigenous resistance movement of the Kashmiris for their inalienable right to self-determination, as enshrined in the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, will only become stronger in the face of Indian state-terrorism.

Pakistan calls upon the international community, including the United Nations, human rights organizations and the global media, to take full cognizance of the aggravating situation in IIOJK and hold India accountable for egregious human rights violations and serious crimes against humanity in the occupied territory.

The international community must act in support of the fundamental freedoms and basic human rights of Kashmiris. The United Nations must live up to its promise of granting right to self-determination to Kashmiris. It must urge India to allow UN fact finding mission to IIOJK to investigate the reports of grave human rights violations there.

Pakistan remains fully supportive of and stands in solidarity with its Kashmiri brothers and sisters. We will continue to extend all possible support to the Kashmiris till the realization of their unalienable right to self-determination in accordance with the UNSC resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Kargil villagers build artificial glaciers to overcome water scarcity

Kargil, January 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the people of Kargil in Ladakh have built two artificial glaciers on their own to overcome the challenges and meet the agricultural needs and are planning to expand them to deal with the water scarcity the region faces during the summer season.

The two Artificial Glaciers have been built at Malikbar Umba and Chumikchan at a distance of around 2 kilometers from the population at a higher altitude close to a natural glacier existing for decades now. The inhabitants of the Chumikcahn area in the Sankoo subdivision talking to the news agency – Kashmir News Observer (KNO) – said the move is aimed to deal with the water scarcity the area faces during the summer season.

“People face immense challenges in irrigating the agricultural fields during the summer season as the region often faces water scarcity. This step of making an artificial Glacier is to deal with the same and ensure there is no water shortage,” they said.

Advocate Ashiq Firdous, one of the locals who is said to be the face to hold deliberations and sought suggestions from region’s famous innovator Sonam Wangchuk about building the artificial Glacier, said that people have worked on it of their own and used their manpower and money to make it a reality.

He said that after March every year Vandalisation of street vendors in the region faces acute water shortage up to at least June 21 and considering the same we approached Sonam Wangchuk to help them with ideas and suggestions. “He trained us for at least three days back in November last year after which the work started. He provided us pipes that can sustain sub-zero temperature upto -40 and the same material has been used to build two glaciers,” Ashiq said.

“60 feet height and 40 feet breadth of the glacier has been completed and the work is still underway to expand them further. Two locals have been permanently engaged there on daily wages. Besides every day 10 individuals go up there for the required work which will continue up to February end,” he said.

Ashiq said that the Sankoo division is one of the most greenery areas and these two glaciers will help to enhance the beauty of the green cover and eliminate the sufferings faced by those associated with agricultural activities.

He said that not a single penny has been provided by anyone while people have made everything possible voluntarily while the Himalayan Institute of Alternates Ladakh (HIAL) headed by Sonam Wangchuk guided them. “Two glaciers will help us until June and then the natural sources will start to flow. There is also a plan to start drip irrigation to ensure more plantations in the area,” he said.

Kashmiris to observe Right to Self-Determination Day tomorrow

Srinagar, January 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over will observe the Right to Self-Determination Day, tomorrow, with the pledge to continue their liberation struggle till it reaches its ultimate goal.

It was on 5th January in 1949 when the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution supporting the Kashmiris’ right to decide their future by themselves through UN-sponsored plebiscite. The day will be marked by various activities including rallies, seminars and conferences across the world to remind the UN that it must implement its relevant resolutions to settle the Kashmir dispute to save the Kashmiris from the Indian brutalities.

The unresolved Kashmir dispute is a nuclear threat flashpoint between Pakistan and India which can engulf the whole world. January 5, 1949 resolution provides the base for settlement of the Kashmir dispute while India’s intransigent attitude had been an impediment to settlement of the Kashmir dispute. It is unfortunate that the World Body has failed to implement its resolutions, resulting in the continued sufferings of the Kashmiri people.

The principles laid down in India-Pakistan communications with the UNCIP on Kashmir dated December 23 and December 25 and adopted by the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan, are supplementary to the Commission’s Resolution of August 13, 1948.

Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, Czechoslovakia and the US were members of the commission. The Resolution was unanimously adopted by the UNCIP on January 5, 1949. The Plebiscite Administrator commended the Government of India and Pakistan for their prompt action in ordering the cease-fire to take effect from one minute before midnight of first January 1949, pursuant to the agreement arrived at as provided for by the Commission’s resolution of 13th August 1948.

Today 74 years have lapsed, but no concrete steps were taken to implement the resolutions of 13th August 1948 and 5th January 1949. The fascist Indian government is using Indian army establishment, RAW, IB and NIA to unleash every kind of oppression to subdue Kashmiris in IIOJK.

East Timor and South Sudan were granted freedom by holding plebiscite while people of Jammu and Kashmir are still facing state terrorism at the hands of Indian occupation forces. The situation in occupied Kashmir is terrible as the Indian government continues to impose military siege since August 05, 2019. Thousands of Kashmiris have been arrested, rest are facing hardships due to shortage of food and medicines.
