APHC leaders remember Gaw Kadal martyrs on their anniversary

Srinagar, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders have paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal on their 32nd martyrdom anniversary. Over 50 innocent people were killed in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21 in 1990 when Indian forces had resorted to indiscriminate firing on peaceful demonstrators who were protesting against the molestation of several women by troops, the previous night.

APHC leader Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal in a statement issued in Srinagar, paying tributes to the victims of Gaukdal tragedy, said that the incident was a milestone in the history of Kashmir. He said, the Indian troops are committing serious crimes in the territory and until the perpetrators are brought to justice, the loss of innocent human lives in IIOJK will continue and uncertainty will increase.

APHC leader Advocate Arshad Iqbal in a statement issued in Srinagar, terming the tragedy as the worst kind of state-terrorism it, said on that fateful day, a crackdown was also held at Chota-bazaar in Srinagar where thousands of men women, children and elderly were subjected to severe torture and humiliation.

He reiterated the Kashmiris’ pledge to take the ongoing freedom movement to its logical end despite all odds. He also appreciated the Legal Forum for Kashmir for effectively raising the Kashmir dispute at the international level.

Hurriyat leaders Khadim Hussain and Maulana Syed Sibt Shabbir Qumi in a joint statement in Srinagar said that the massacre of Gaw Kadal on January 21, 1990 was a clear example of Indian brutality against innocent Kashmiris.

They said that in the last 32 years there had been dozens of such massacres in the occupied territory at the hands of ruthless Indian troops but the Kashmiris had not given up and they were standing firm against the illegal Indian occupation of Kashmir.

AHPC-AJK chapter leader, Mehmood Ahmad Sagar in his statement in Islamabad said, the massacre is one of the most terrific incidents of mass-killings in the history of Kashmir that will continue to bruise the hearts and minds of the Kashmiri people.

Lauding the supreme sacrifices of the Kashmiri martyrs, he said, “We are indebted to martyrs who laid down their lives for the sacred cause.” AHPC-AJK leader, Imtiaz Wani in a statement in Islamabad termed the incident as the worst type of Indian state terrorism in IIOJK.

APHC-AJK leader, Mushtaq Hussain Gilani in his statement in Islamabad said that the Kashmiris could never forget the Gawkadal massacre perpetrated by Indian forces in 1990. He deplored that the Kashmiris had always been victims of Indian state terrorism as in 1947, India, under a well-conceived plan, martyred at least 300,000 innocent people with the help of extremist Hindus in Jammu and since then the Kashmiri people had been the victims of Indian tyranny.

He said Kashmiris have no choice but to carry on their freedom struggle from Indian occupation till taking it to its logical conclusion. He said that the world community was deliberately neglecting the Kashmir dispute despite the fact that it was an internationally recognized disputed territory.

32 years on: Justice continues to elude Gaw Kadal massacre victims

Islamabad, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):Justice continues to elude the victims of Gaw Kadal massacre victims despite the passage of 32 years. Over 50 people were killed in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21 in 1990 when Indian troops had resorted to indiscriminate firing on peaceful demonstrators who were protesting against the molestation of several women by troops the previous night.

A report released by Kashmir Media Service, today, said that Indian troops had committed scores of brutal massacres since 1989 in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and over 95,950 Kashmiris had fallen to Indian bullets in the past 32 years and that memories of Gaw Kadal like bloodbaths were still fresh in the minds of Kashmiris.

The report pointed out that the aim of committing massacres was to instill fear among the people of Kashmir, adding that the large-scale killings of the Kashmiris were also meant to change demography of the territory by turning its Muslim majority status into a minority.

While saying that the Gaw Kadal and other massacres are a reminder of the criminal face of the occupation troops, the report deplored that the RSS-backed Indian regime has planned to carry out more Gaw Kadal like carnage in the occupied territory. It lamented that Hindutva-inspired Modi had crossed all records of atrocities in IIOJK.

However, the report said, wanton killings would not deter Kashmiris from pursuing their struggle for right to self-determination and they would not rest till achieving freedom from Indian yoke. The report urged the global rights bodies to probe massacres committed by Indian troops in the occupied territory. The world must play its role to punish culprits of Gaw Kadal and other massacres in IIOJK, it said and added that killing fields of Kashmir was a challenge to the so-called civilized world.

Foreign investment flow into India down 26pc in 2021: UN

United Nations, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows to India in 2021 were 26% lower, mainly because large M and A deals recorded in 2020 were not repeated, the UN trade body has said. The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Investment Trends Monitor said, global foreign direct investment flows showed a strong rebound in 2021, growing 77 percent to an estimated $1.65 trillion, from $929 billion in 2020, surpassing their pre-Covid level.

The UNCTAD Secretary General, Rebeca Grynspan said, “Recovery of investment flows to developing countries is encouraging, but the stagnation of new investment in the least developed countries in industries important for productive capacities, and key Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) sectors – such as electricity, food or health – is a major cause for concern.”

The report said developed economies saw the biggest rise by far, with FDI reaching an estimated $777 billion in 2021 – three times the exceptionally low level in 2020. The FDI flows in developing economies increased by 30 percent to nearly $870 billion, with a growth acceleration in East and South-East Asia (+20pc), a recovery to near pre-pandemic levels in Latin America and the Caribbean, and an uptick in West Asia.

FDI flows to South Asia decreased 24 percent to $54 billion in 2021 from $71 billion in 2020. FDI in the US – the largest host economy – increased by 114% to $323 billion, and cross-border M and As almost tripled in value to $285 billion.
