COVID-19 claims 8 more patients, infects 3,359 others 

Karachi, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):As many as 8 more patients of Coronavirus died overnight lifting the death toll to 7,738 and 3,359 new cases emerged when 16,269 tests were conducted.

This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here on Saturday. He added that 8 more patients of COVID-19 lost their lives lifting the death toll to 7,738 that constituted 1.5 percent death rate.

Mr. Shah said that 16,269 samples were tested which detected 3,359 cases that constituted 20.6 percent current detection rate. He added that so far 7,451,367 tests have been conducted against which 521,689 cases were diagnosed, of them 90.9 percent or 474,355 patients have recovered, including 228 overnight.

The CM said that currently 39,596 patients were under treatment, of them 39,146 were in home isolation, 30 at isolation centers and 420 at different hospitals. He added that the condition of 367 patients was stated to be critical, including 21 shifted to ventilators.

According to the statement, out of 3,359 new cases, 2,652 have been detected from Karachi, including 920 from East, 807 South, 395 Central, 279 Malir, 178 Korangi and 73 West. Hyderabad has 264, Sanghar 26, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan 25 each, Badin 22, Sukkur 17, Mirpurkhas and Thatta 16 each, Tharparkar 15, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur and Matiari 13 each, Ghotki, Khairpur and Jamshoro 12 each, Tando Allahyar and Umerkot 10 each, Larkana 9, Jacobabad 6 and Kashmore 3.

Vaccination: Sharing vaccination data the CM said that 32,906,400 vaccinations have been administered upto January 20th, and added during the last 24 hours 209,061 vaccines were inoculated – in total 33,115,461 vaccines have administered which constituted 59.73 percent of the vaccine eligible population.

Pakistan Navy Ship Tabuk visits Bahrain during regional maritime security patrols

Islamabad, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Navy Ship TABUK visited Manama, Bahrain during Regional Maritime Security Patrols (RMSP). Upon arrival at Mina Salman port, PN Ship was received by Ambassador of Pakistan HE Mr Muhammad Ayub along with Commander Combined Task Force 150 Cdre Vaqar Muhammad, Naval and amp; Air Attaché of Pakistan at KSA and officials from Pakistan and amp; Bahrain Naval forces.

During stay at port, Commanding Officer PNS TABUK Captain Muhammad Umair called on Commander Royal Bahrain Naval Forces (RBNF) Rear Admiral Muhammad Yousif Al Asam, Acting Commander Bahrain Coast Guard Brigadier Hamad Bin Mohamed Al Khalifa, and Deputy Commander Bahrain Coast Guard Brigadier Jasim Mohamed Al Gatam.

During the meetings, matters of mutual interests and cooperation were discussed. Commanding Officer highlighted Pakistan and #39;s efforts in promoting peace and security in the region and PN and #39;s firm resolve to deal with emerging challenges in maritime domain.

He also highlighted the significance of Kashmir issue and its settlement in accordance with UNSC resolution for ensuring peace and prosperity in the region. Commanding Officer PNS TABUK also conveyed sincere regards from Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi for the people of Bahrain and Royal Bahrain Naval Forces.

The Commanding Officer PNS TABUK also called on Deputy Commander Combined Maritime Force Cdre Aldrain Fryer (UK), Captain Brendon Clarke (New Zealand) outgoing CCTF 150 and Captain Mohammed Ismail Al Tarawnch (Jordan) CCTF 151.

Pakistan Navy believes in promoting peace and is committed to maritime security and order at sea. The port visit will contribute in strengthening the bilateral ties and further enhance interoperability between both navies.

Pakistan ranks second in the world in controlling corona: Farrukh

Islamabad, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Farrukh Habib says Pakistan ranks second in the world in controlling corona. Talking to media in Faisalabad today [Saturday], he said about seventy million people in the country have so far been vaccinated.

He said due to proper vaccination and implementation of SOPs, markets are now open and people have resumed routine activities, while various countries are still under the effects of COVID-19. Farrukh Habib said that government is paying special attention to improving economic growth of the country.

He said development projects and schemes worth hundreds of billions of rupees are underway in all parts of the country. He said tax collection has increased and various sectors like IT, textile, construction, and small and medium industries are growing due to prudent policies of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Pakistan stands in top three on Economist normalcy index: Finance Minister

Islamabad, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin says Pakistan has stood in the top three in the Economist normalcy index for the third consecutive time. In a tweet today, he said no other country has achieved this in the world. The same is reflected in the revised GDP growth of 5.37 percent in FY21, the second best in last 14 years.

He said the government is moving on with structural changes, inclusive growth and policy actions. He pointed out that Bloomberg has also recognised that Pakistan has entered the decade of sustained growth. The Minister said next ten years will help reduce income disparity, increase employment and improve human development.

Govt striving hard to bring economic stability in the country: Foreign Minister 

Islamabad, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that government is striving hard to bring economic stability in the country. Talking to newsmen in Multan today [Saturday], he said this year is the year of revival of economy and next year will be year of prosperity.

The foreign minister said that Pakistani economy is growing by 5.3 percent as per the World Bank report which is encouraging. He said that Pakistan has successfully overcome the four waves of corona pandemic. To a question, he said Pakistan’s armed forces and entire nation have sacrificed their lives in war against terrorism. He said nefarious designs of enemies against Pakistan will never be succeeded.

Resolve Kashmir dispute on urgent basis, Pakistan tells UN 

Islamabad, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):At the United Nations, Pakistan has urged called on world body to step up its efforts and urgently resolve the Kashmir dispute in order to halt Indian atrocities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and prevent a threat to regional and global peace and security.

This was stated by Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, while commenting on the report of the UN chief on the work of the Organization. He said United Nations and the Secretary General can do much more to address peace and security threats by fully using the authority provided by the United Nations Charter. The Pakistani envoy said, the primary threat in South Asia is posed by the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir.

Govt taking concrete steps for revival of film and drama industry: Information Minister 

Islamabad, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain says the government has taken concrete steps for the revival of film and drama industry. Inaugurating the screening of Pakistani films at Dubai Expo-2020, he said special incentives have been given to Cinema houses. These include reduction in their taxes and electricity tariff.

He said the taxes have also been removed on film industry. He said we imposed taxes on foreign content in order to promote and encourage local content. Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said there are many picturesque places in Pakistan and the procedure for the NOC is being simplified for film making there.

The Information Minister said the films to be screened at Pakistani pavilion in Dubai Expo are for international audience. Eleven films will be screened at the Pakistani pavilion till 26th of next month. A large number of overseas Pakistanis in UAE attended the opening ceremony.
