Govt taking steps on priority basis for industrial development: Prime Minister 

Islamabad, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Imran Khan says government is taking steps on priority basis for industrial development. Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad today [Friday], he said industrial development is imperative for overall economic development. He said regardless of Covid-19, industries remained operational because of successful policies of the government.

The Prime Minister directed to take steps on priority basis to encourage investment in the industries. The meeting was informed the share of manufacturing sector in the GDP is 12.79 percent and the government is focussing to enhance it to twenty five percent. The meeting was informed that a comprehensive strategy has been prepared to revive sick units and woo investment in the Information Technology.

Indian policeman injured in Srinagar grenade blast

Srinagar, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian policeman was injured in a grenade attack in Srinagar, today. Unidentified persons hurled a grenade on a joint team of Indian police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in Khwaja Bazaar area of Srinagar, resulting in injuring of one cop. Two shops were also damaged in the blast. Soon after the incident, Indian police and troops cordoned off the area to nab the attackers.

India’s NIA arrests IPS officer for leaking secret documents 

New Delhi, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested its former Superintendent of Police (SP) and Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Arvind Digvijay Negi for leaking secret documents. The NIA spokesperson in a statement said that Negi was arrested in connection with a case registered by the agency on November 06 last year.

The spokesperson said that A D Negi’s houses were searched, adding that it was found that official secret documents of the NIA were leaked by the IPS officer. The NIA had earlier arrested six people in the case.

The Islamabad Police have launched ‘Online Complaint Management System’ to facilitate public on instructions of Inspector General Police Mohammad Ahsan Younus

Islamabad, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Islamabad Police have launched ‘Online Complaint Management System’ to facilitate public on instructions of Inspector General Police Mohammad Ahsan Younus. The police have introduced seven different services including registration of FIR. The citizens will be able to avail all the services from their homes through the system.

The IGP said the police have been struggling to provide all facilities to the public at their doorsteps. According to the details, Islamabad Police have launched the online complaint management system to provide seven different services to the public.

These services include FIR registration, complaints about traffic, complaints against any police official, and regarding any investigation. The citizens will be able to get an e-tag number through their mobile phones without visiting police station. The e-tag numbers will be sent to the complainant through WhatsApp and text message.

The citizens are advised to visit Islamabad Police website or go to a direct link complaints.islamabadpolice.gov.pk to register their complaints. The IGP Mohammad Ahsan Younus said the Islamabad Police are making all out efforts to provide facilities to public at their doorsteps. He said the police was striving to make Islamabad a crime-free City by timely addressing complaints of the public.

State Bank of Pakistan issues Rs.70 Commemorative Coin to Mark 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Germany and Pakistan

Karachi, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):A ceremony was held at the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) office in Islamabad to mark the issuance of a special 70 Rupee Commemorative Coin on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Germany and Pakistan. It may be recalled that the diplomatic relationship between Germany and Pakistan was established on October 15, 1951.

The Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Mr. Sohail Mahmood graced the occasion as Chief Guest, which was also attended by the Ambassador of Germany His Excellency Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck, as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony was hosted by Deputy Governor SBP Dr. Murtaza Syed. In his address, Dr. Syed welcomed both the Foreign Secretary Mr. Sohail Mahmood and the Ambassador of Germany, Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck and paid tribute to the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries.

He highlighted the strong financial and banking connections, which have helped to promote bilateral trade, remittances and investment. Dr. Murtaza also shed light on the exemplary cooperation between the two central banks of Pakistan and Germany, and said that SBP has benefitted immensely from the training and development programs organized by the Bundesbank.

In his address, Dr. Syed paid tribute to the German-Pakistani nun Dr. Ruth Pfau for her untiring and selfless efforts to fight leprosy in Pakistan. He recalled that Pakistan had also issued a commemorative coin to honour her services in 2018. The ambassador of Germany His Excellency Bernhard Schlagheck expressed his appreciation to the Government of Pakistan and the SBP for the ceremony.

While noting the design features of the coin, he remarked on the historic importance of the buildings depicted, the Brandenburg Gate and the Minar-e-Pakistan. He noted that Germany and Pakistan have a long history of development cooperation, reflected most recently by the ongoing visit of the Deputy Development Minster of Germany.

He also highlighted the history of close interaction between the two countries at the highest levels, alluding to the planned visits of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to Germany and the German foreign minister to Pakistan. He emphasized that the two countries have strong relations in the areas of finance, culture, and education.

The ambassador also extoled the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Germany, noting that they were playing an important role in promoting social prosperity and economic development in Germany. Foreign Secretary, Mr. Sohail Mahmood in his address discussed the strong relations that Germany and Pakistan have established over many decades.

He highlighted the cooperation between Pakistan and Germany in diverse fields including trade and investment, energy, environment, education, science and technology, and defense and security. He noted that Germany is the largest trading partner of Pakistan within the European Union and appreciated the investment made by German institutions in Pakistan.

On a human level, he also highlighted the significant influence of Germany in the intellectual evolution of Allama Iqbal. The commemorative coin has a diameter of 30 mm and weighs 13 grams, with milled serrations on the edge. The metal composition of the coin is Cupro-Nickel with 75% Copper and 25% Nickel.

H.E. Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri meets Acting Prime Minister of Fiji 

Canberra, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):His Excellency, Mr Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, the newly appointed Non-Resident High Commissioner of Pakistan to Fiji, paid a call to Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General of Fiji, Mr. Aiyaz Sayed-Khayyam. During the meeting, High Commissioner Chaudhri highlighted that the Pakistan diaspora has integrated well into Fiji, adding that Pakistan will continue to support Fiji through the provision of technical training to Civil Servants, Defence Forces, and diplomatic training through the Foreign Service Academy of Pakistan.

The Attorney General of Fiji outlined potential opportunities for investment – particularly within the trade and business sectors, and expressed intentions to execute a Development Co-operation Agreement (Agreement) between Fiji and Pakistan to further strengthen their relations. The Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr Yogesh Karan, was also present in the meeting and agreed to initiate talks with High Commissioner Chaudhri on the execution of the Agreement between Fiji and Pakistan.

H.E. Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri meets Fiji’s Minister for Women 

Canberra, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):The newly appointed Non-Resident High Commissioner of Pakistan to Fiji, His Excellency, Mr Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri met Fiji’s Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar.

Minister Akbar briefed His Excellency on the Fijian Government’s commitment to Women’s Empowerment, Gender Equality and Social Protection Programs. “These programs have assisted the women, children and the vulnerable in our communities”, she said.

Minister Akbar congratulated High Commissioner Chaudhri on his new diplomatic role and said that she looks forward to working closely with Pakistan on promoting Women’s Empowerment, Gender Equality and Social Protection Program. His Excellency, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said the Government of Pakistan is willing to share best practices related to the work done by the Ministry. The Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Children Poverty Alleviation, and Rovereto Nayacalevu was also present in the meeting.
